Do you have the main character? Because I don’t. I just can’t settle down on one character. And I don’t even have any reasons to don’t have main lol.
For example, most played character by me is my Hunter. But every time I play him I think ‘Oh, that would be nice if I had a heal/tank spec. Maybe I should play healer?’ and oh crap, this is insane. I have druid, shaman, monk, priest and I’m working on the paladin. But maybe I should play a tank? Druid is fun, monk great, but what about DK? Or maybe warrior? Or should I play paladin? But DPS is also fun, maybe Warlock? Or Mage?
And these types of questions in my head are popping out every day.
Okay, maybe I just need to play all of them? Every week just swap my main. But I really miss the feeling of the main character. When someone asked me ‘Which class is your main?’ I was a bit confused and said ‘Hunter’ just because I played him more than other classes.
Also, the biggest problem is that I always looking at numbers when I choose a new class. ‘Oh, Holy paladin is a top healer! I need to play him!’ or ‘Wow, UDK is so OP in PvP, I should definitely play this spec!’ ‘OMG, Shadow Priest is a BEAST in a new raid! Need to level him ASAP’.
Why? Why the hell is this happening to me? Yesterday I was thinking that I would play Rogue, it’s fun and good. Today I’m thinking that I will miss heal spec and why to roll Rogue if I have pure DPS Hunter. Tomorrow I can think that ‘Oh, monk is so fun, why I don’t play him?’.
So, how do you choose your main character? Do you main a specific role? If you are pure DPS, do you miss heal/tank roles?
I don’t have a main… I am not part of a team at the moment, so I don’t have to focus on one class or spec.
I sometimes get a little bored looking at the same char, so I switch between my chars a lot - it gives some challenging gameplay when I jump from a healer class to a dps class without selfhealing
I don’t, circumstances chooses it for me.
If I come across players who need me and my char then I will focus on that char because of the group
You don’t have to main a single character, some people like me main specific specs per expansion/patch/season depends on what I do but I tend to pick classes I enjoy to play in general and play them long term.
I used to main Pala and DK but after playing them for a very long time I wanted to play classes that are more mobile in nature so I rerolled.
Today, I main Resto Druid, MW Monk, Prot Warrior and Assassination Rogue, I play other specs as well if needed but these are the classes/specs that I like in terms of fantasy and gameplay so I tend to stick to them regardless to the meta.
I care about being good enough with my characters so I can achieve my goals in the game, I measure myself against players that play the same classes/specs but I don’t compare myself to classes that I don’t play, I accept the weaknesses and the strengths of the ones I play and for me that’s good enough.
When it comes to picking classes, just think about your goals in the game, try them all out and pick one or few that you enjoy and fits your needs, don’t mind the meta or FoTM classes/specs even though it happened to be that I play Resto Druid and Prot Warrior but I’d play them regardless.
You only need a main character if you want to go raiding because you can’t just keep switching character in it, unless it’s casual runs. So just play what you want as you want. Having one of every class is probably good for you.
I do have a main character, my druid.
First it was my monk, through end of mop and wod.
Then druid through legion because of the mw monk changes.
Then played mw again in bfa until we killed Jaina hc. Kinda missed my druid.
Then on farm i geared my druid and maining it since.
I also have 10 characters at 120 and 2 of them at 110 or a bit higher.
Not like its terrible to have options.
Not really felt like playing alts much this xpac though. I only geared my monk, druid and rogue, last patch that is.
Not touched alts much this patch cause of essence grind is enough to do once and I always get discouraged.
From what I read, you are a druid material. Druid is the only class that can perform every single role gmae has to offer. You can tank, you can heal, you can be ranged caster dps and you can be rogue alike melee dps in cat form.
Give maining one a try. If that does not click, there is still paladin and monk, who can also perform dps/tank/heal roles.
As someone said, Druid could be the best option for you. Or even Monk.
I’m also suggesting Shadow Priest as this is my main since 7.3 patch and I absolutely love the lore, visuals and whole gameplay. I never look at the statistics of which class is currently top tier because it’s always different and shadow priests have high chance to be at the top all the time.
You are just an altoholic, welcome to the club. I have every class at level 120 for the exact same reasons. Some time ago I leveled my last class to level 120 for the horde. Then I thought “Now I have every class at max level so I don’t have to level anything at all. I’m gonna switch my “main” every day”.
But guess what? Later I started to think that alliance is better and I should try playing for the alliance. I leveled dark iron dwarf rogue to level 120. And I really liked alliance players because they are more calm and friendly. Then I leveled LF Draenei paladin. After that I thought “ok, I can stop now. No reasons to level up every class to level 120 once again”.
I started to play my characters, but soon I started to think “damn, all these horde races are big and ugly and I like small characters. And why is my hunter is a big cow that gets targeted by everyone in PVP because it’s big and easy to target? Why didn’t I leveled a goblin hunter at least?”.
Well, now when I’m tired of end game content I level up gnomes. Because I like them and there is no single thing that I hate about them.
Time played 482 days and almost 22 hours atm, I’ve played my Shaman since Vanilla WoW in 2005, before that I played a Night Elf Druid for a few months.
I had the greatest times and met the greatest people playing this character, it wasn’t untill Wrath of the Lich King that I actually seriously started to level alts, my Tauren Druid and my Blood Elf mage.
Now I have a small selection of alts, and Shaman had it’s ups and downs through the years, but I keep coming back to him, guess he’s sort of become my ‘alter ego’ in WoW.
If I had to choose out of all my characters, I’d choose him, with my Druid on a firm second place.
I don’t mind tanking, I’m just not a pro and the ‘responsibility’ sometimes gives me some fear of doing well. On my Shaman, if I do group content, I’ll mainly fill in the Healing role, not Always though, but mostly I’m the support.
And I like it.
That said, I don’t think you really need a main though, if you enjoy leveling and playing your alts, then there really isn’t an issue, you’ll gear up aswell, it’ll ofcourse just be a slower pace, the only issues it gives is if you want to do serious raiding or pvp, then people will expect you to be on your best and focus time on your characters they can rely on / need the most for a certain role.
I’ve been falling out of love with my main and find myself in the same boat. I decide on a new class/spec and then find a reason why I shouldn’t role that one.
Demon hunter is great in mythic+ but that rotation in raids is so dull.
Survival is tons of fun but getting into groups sucks!
Resto shammy felt great levelling but is underpowered at max.
Druid has so much going on but can’t get into the class fantasy and form shifting all the time.
Priest was for sure, tried mythic+ as holy and gave up on that.
Monk is loads fun but then went on the monk forums…
I’m running out of classes! Is it so much to ask for a class that is op in all situations lol
