IMPORTANT: Do NOT run out of the instance without speaking with Windsor first to complete the quest. You will have to run the instance all over again.

I am glad to hear that you got it done. 
Escort quests in Classic are notorious. It’s something we brought up in the Classic “Not a Bug” list ahead of the launch as well.
To get credit for escort quests in WoW Classic make sure you always follow the NPC as closely as you can and like Shammoz mentioned for this specific quest making sure to let the event finish in full can help avoid future re-runs.
