Since it was a problem for some to copy their mains(me included, saltmuch), it was probably easier for them to just shut it off.
Not like they have acknowledge anything about the problem, scary thing is, that it has been a problem recurring ever since they shifted to copy char ingame, from the copy you used to do on battle.net for PTR, back in original tbc/wotlk.
Oh well, happy times.
