Can't delete characters - can't write ticket

When I try to delete a character, I get the error message “Character deletion failed”.

The character has no mail (read or unread) and no other possible reasons why it couldn’t be deleted - it is a newly created character with the anniversary mail read, emptied and deleted.

It started last night after I had created and deleted a number of new characters, so I thought I had reached some sort of limit for character deletion or something, though I have never heard of that… but I gave up and went to bed.

But then today, the problem persists, and it’s getting quite annoying since I just spent days unlocking a new allied race and now I want to make a new character… but thanks to the undeleteable ones, I am at cap.

So, I try to make a ticket… and within ½ an hour, my teeth are gritted and I feel like hitting my screen with something hard!
I just CAN’T get through that system! HOW do I navigate the labyrinthian hell that is the ticket system? How do I get to a place that actually allows me to write a ticket??
Last time I needed to, someone here posted a link, and then I finally could write an actual ticket, but is that really the only way, to go back and search for that link in an old forum post? Is there no “normal” way to get through that system? How do other people somehow manage to contact support?

Top right of this page ‘Support’ then on the next page just below that ‘contact support’.
And then … I see what you mean. The link to ingame/character help has vanished. I think I’ve found a way to do it.
After you click ‘contact support’ ignore the topic account/payments/etc buttons and click on ‘games’ ‘world of warcraft’ below. Then click on ‘I would rather categorise the issue’ and then you get the option for in-game issues. Click on that, then ‘character problem’ and the first option ‘character undelete’. At the bottom of that page is a ‘contact us’ button … or, to save you time, https://eu.battle.net/support/en/help/product/wow/197/836/solution

I don’t know where the ‘character problem’ option has gone to from the initial screen, but hopefully someone can bring it back.

Oh… yeah, I saw the “Character undelete” option somewhere, but I didn’t choose it since my problem is the exact opposite… I do not want to UNdelete a character, but to delete it.

But well, whatever gets me through the labyrinth, I guess? Thanks for the suggestion, in any case.
(Edit: Tried it now, but no… just get a form to UN-delete a character.)
(Edit 2: Now found an alternative “route” through the labyrinth and managed to actually post a ticket… but would still be interested to hear possible solutions to the deletion-issue.)

Ah, sorry, I didn’t go any further than the ‘contact us’ button on the last page but presumed you’d be able to describe the problem. I’m glad you managed to make a ticket and hope a GM can sort you out.

Some realms have been having this problem, mostly the Classic realms, SoM in particular

Yeah, when I tried to make a ticket about it, the only choices I had were about Classic / TBC realms. My issue is on normal retail realms, though.

The message usually gives more details as to why you can’t delete characters. Maybe the 50 character limit also counts for deleted characters. So you can have 50 live characters and 50 deleted ones.

Possibly, but I did not misread it - it says exactly what I wrote above: “Character deletion failed.”
I also wondered why it didn’t say WHY it failed, but it didn’t.

I suppose it’s possible. I never heard of such a thing before, but well - live and learn. (Also, I was indeed re-creating chars when the issue started, but 50? Hmm, not sure it was that many…)

Now I can suddenly delete and create characters again. No clue what the issue was and no clue why it’s solved, but I closed my ticket now.

However, if anyone knows, I’d still be interested in knowing if there is some sort of hidden limit on deletion of characters.
