Can't do anything in gme

Hi Guys,
Not sure if I am posting in the right group but…
A couple of weeks ago I’ve gotten a brand new gaming rig, installed all my games, all the new drivers, copied and updated all my addons and decided to run wow.
After like 4 minutes in game, the whole thing freezes, but the animations still work, i cannot press anything and can’t use anything in game.
Before you ask, internet is the same, connection is the same, addons are the same etc.
Nothing changed besides the new pc, which is a massive improvement from the previous one.
Please help, i’ve looked online and can’t seem to find anyone that had a similar issue.

Sounds bit like network problem.

Suggestions, in no particular order:
Try with clean UI (you can backup/move the current settings so you can easily restore them if the problem happens even with the clean UI).
Try using wired connection if you are using wireless.
Check the cables and try different cable if using wired connection.
If you have any third party firewall, antivirus or other security software try uninstalling them.

Quick update. While the Freeze happens, my chat works, the in game animations work, i can move my caracter but i just cannot interact with anything or use any skills / abilities. i soon after get a disconnect.
I have activated/ deactivated addons, changed direct x from 12, to 11, to 11 legacy and nothing works.
Please help.

Then it is clearly a connection issue.
Try updating your NIC with the latest driver from the chipset vendor e.g. Intel or realtek.
Are you using wifi or a direct connection to your router?

World of Warcraft uses two connections at the same time, one that covers things like chat and addons, and the other covers things like combat, movement, spells, other players etc.

Ingame when you look at the computer icon on the action bar you’ll see these two connections labelled as Home and World.

It is totally possible to have a connection issue or even lag on one part but not the other, which is where you might see massive delays in spellcasting or your character running in the same spot, but chat is still instant.
If it’s not just a delay, that’s when it would disconnect you after a small amount of time.

Give the steps here a try, these help with the majority of disconnection issues like this that we see pop up: World of Warcraft Disconnection Troubleshooting

Have you installed Windows 10 2004 version?
Upgraded it from 1909 or a clean install 2004?
The 2004 can give you problems with the graphic card if you use Nvidia that the screen freezes.
But hopefully the latest update should had solved it.

You can read about it on internet if you google it:Windows 10 2004 nvidia problems.

Any news?
It’s 2024 and I’m having the same issues. Tried all the steps in the guide, but keeps happening. I enter the game, can walk around, jump and nothing more. No spell casting, no flying, can’t even exit the game, all the buttons in the ESC menu doesn’t respond. After 30s more or less, I get disconnected.
It happens only on 1 character, not to every one. On others seems fine but still I get recurrent disconnections every 5 minutes or so, but kinda playable…But on my main character, it’s unplayable. Please help, the guide doesn’t provide any benefit to my case.

you are describing an issue normally resulting from an out of date graphic driver in windows

I can’t understand why anybody is using Windows 10 - Use Windows 11 pro if you are going to game on that platform - of buy a Mac mini M4 - I still use an M1, and its a better experience that I ever had on Windows - and the M4 comes in £300 less than I paid for the M1 near 4 years ago

But that doesn’t explain why on my alts everything is fine. The issue is only on the main char

Hello,
I have a few ideas of what you can try.

  1. First try to see if clearing the cache helps you at all. Turn off WoW and then in the folder "World of Warcraft_retail_" there is a folder named “Cache”, delete that folder.

2a. Shut down your computer and then unplug your router for 60 seconds. Restart the router and give it 2-3 minutes to be fully up and running, then turn on your computer.

2b. When your computer is up and running press the Windows-key+R or right-click on the Start button and press “Run”. Then type in “cmd” and press ENTER or OK. A third option is go into the Start menu and locate and click “Tools for Windows” and then click the Command Prompt. When you have the Command Prompt open type the following:
ipconfig /flushdns
Then press ENTER and restart your computer. Then you can try launching World of Warcraft again and see if that helps.

If that doesn’t help try this:

  1. There is a thread on the Technical Support forum that might solve your issues and it seems fairly easy to try it out. The thread is named “Freezing after a loading screen - SOLUTION! /gquit” with the following webaddress/URL:

Further down the thread Turbocolor seems to have a solution to their problem. This is the direct webaddress/URL:

In short Turbocolors solution is:

"… If you go to your guild “info” tab, and click on “Click to set news filters”, there’s a lot of checked boxes.

if you uncheck them, it fixed my freeezes each time i was loading a new instances".

If I were you I would do all steps above 1, 2a and 2b try if that solves it and if not, try step 3.

Step 3 is a bit of a gamble from my part but I have about 25 years experience as an IT-professionell so my solution might work  (Also the possible solution in step 3 all goes to Turbocolor. I just read it and realized that the long latency (high ping) because of a bug in World of Warcraft can give you very strange problems).

Thanks for your deep answer, really appreciated. I took my time to follow step by step what you suggested. I’m sad to say it didn’t help :frowning: the only method i did not try is the one with the guild tab, unchecking the boxes, because i cannot open nor interact with any button, even the guild button. i can only type in chat, so i typed /gquit and that’s it. but other than chat, nothing works. i still enter the game (every 3/4 failed logins) and after couple of seconds i see everyone around me just walking on the spot, not moving around. i can move around for a bit, but everything around is not moving. And after few seconds or few meters i just get kicked out. Seems like a connection issue, but my internet line is just fine, everything else works just fine…It’s 4 days now i’m in this situation and nothing is helping even a little bit…i’m really frustrated
