Hey there,
I’ve faction changed my main this morning, however now that I wish to promote them back to guild master I get the error message “You can’t invite members of the opposing faction”.
Wasn’t it according to the inverview that the faction of a guild would be decided on the faction of the guild master?
Could I receive some clarity on this so I can understand what I’d have to do to correct this.
Kind regards
Hey Aithi,
The guild is technically set to the faction of the character who created it. If you faction changed the guild leader after giving the lead to another character, that new character in the new faction wouldn’t be able to be guild leader.
So in short does that mean i cant give the GM to a Charakter of the opposite faction, because the guild was created on the other Faction?
I don’t understand it. Like Aithi said, wasn’t it stated in the Interview that the faction of the Guild is the Faction of the Guild Master?
I have like a similar issue. We were a cross faction community ever since. We cheered that we can play on one Guild now, but yesterday i wanted to set all up, and i cant make my Horde Charakter to the Guild Master now, even if my other Charakter on Alliance is the Guild Master right now…
That’s quite a bummer imo

I don’t know which interview you’re referring to, but the faction of the guild is indeed the faction of the player who created the guild, and cannot be changed outside of the guild faction change service.

Should we use the in-game service, would we have to leave our current guild to rejoin the newly remade guild?
Or would it now be as merely changing the alignment of the guild without everyone having to rejoin the faction changed guild in 10.1.
While prior to 10.1 a new guild was formed and players had to re-join after using the in-game service.
The point is, it would be very inconveniant to having to recreate a guild if a Guild Master prefers to play on the other faction.
The other solution would be creating a second guild rank just for the Guild Master.
I thank you in advance for providing clarity
As far as I understand Aithi, the guild faction change functionality is still the same. There are indeed some pain points here and there with such new features that the developers would like to change in the future, however it’s not really something that we’re involved with.

Hi Yryadorne,
That’s clear thank you very much, while it’s unfortunate that there are still limitations, I’m already happy with what we have.
At this point it’s just an issue of understanding what the limitations of the new system are and finding a workaround.
Your feedback provided clarity to me, thank you!
Lets hope the developers delve further into the QoL issues in a future patch.
I did exactly the same, changed the faction of my GL character (my main), after passing lead to an alt, and now I can’t promote her back to Guild Lead. I understand the limitations after reading here, but I have to say that it doesn’t feel like guilds are truly cross-faction if I can’t change the faction of my main character, and promote her back to Guild Lead. I’m disappointed.
