Can't locate game after transferring it from one computer to another?

Hello!

I’m having trouble installing World of Warcraft. I transferred the game from another computer to mine but the battle.net app keeps saying that I don’t have it installed. Prior to this I had TBC Classic installed but that won’t start now either, it keeps telling me to update the game. I click update and it starts scanning. When the scan is complete, I get an error saying that something broke, try again.

But retail won’t start at all, it just says that the game isn’t installed, and all I can do is click Install. After some googling I found that some people just have to click install and then the game locates the file automatically. That doesn’t work for me because I don’t have enough space left on my PC. And I can NOT re-install the game because I am on a limited data-plan which is why I transferred the files in the first place.

I have tried scanning, repairing, moving the folders from one place to another and try to locate again, re-installed the battle.net app, and so on. I feel like I’ve tried everything.

Any advice? Thank you, hope your day is going well!

I fixed this for a friend of mine who had a similar error, following the following advice found on reddit.

In your World of Warcraft install, locate the Data folder (Not retail_ or classic_ folders).

Inside that locate another folder called Data.

Tell windows to sort the files by size. There should be ONE file that is exactly 1kb in size. Delete it.

Now restart the battlenet app, and let it scan and repair one final time. It should now be able to fix it.

YMMV, but it fixed it for my friend.
