Can't make myself GM

Hello,

Im guild master with now an alt. My current main character can’t be promoted to GM. Even my others characters can’t or made Officer. Getting the message that i need an authenticator, which i have. For the GM part no error or notification is given.

If you’ve only recently added them to the guild it takes a few days to register. Try again after reset, if that fails give it another couple of days.

They have been in this guild for more then 7 day’s and at least 2 resets. probably months if not years.

Oh dear. Thats not good news then.

At this point I would consider talking to a GM, they will provide advice, or might just change the GM themselves.

Also you had the authenticator for more than 7 days?

I did, they told me to go to the forums, so here i am lol.

Try toggling the authenticator required setting then toggle it back again, see if that helps.

I just race changed today, which removes the character from its guild, and after my GM invited me back, they got the same message trying to give me a rank. Something’s borked with guild ranks in general.

Made a ticket again see what they will say this time.

@Neosaro, yes since 2012

@As, will try this later.

Corrected it for you. ;-p

Correct it again - guilds are beyond a joke right now.

I know those two immediately preceding replies don’t help…

I’ve a horrible suspicion you can’t do a Guild Leader change inside of the same account - although you definitely can across multiple accounts inside the same Battle.Net account.

I’ve never been able to do it - always needed to have both characters online at the same time - so only by logging into two accounts would it allow me to do it.

My GM was able to promote me to the proper rank as of a couple hours ago. Some things might be working again.

That’s as maybe - but please can you clarify:

  1. Is your GM a different human being, using a different Battle.Net account, logged in at the same time as you?

Zymosis: the title of the post says - can’t make myself GM. - are you trying to do this on the same WoW account inside a single Battle.Net account?

I’m trying to establish whether this is an issue that is requiring the target character for receiving the Guild Leader rank needing to be logged in when receiving that particular rank?

EDIT: It can be done as a / command - /gleader character_name as well as the promote to GuildMaster option in the guild UI.

It’s a different person on a different account, promoting me to a non-GM rank. However he was getting the same authentication error as OP last night when he first tried to promote me after re-inviting me to the guild.

thanks - that may help narrow down the issue - if OP is transferring a personal guild leadership between accounts on the same wow account inside a single battle.net account.

It maybe your scenario and theirs are not the same.

I had the same issue a long time ago. Not sure if anything has changed since but at that time there was no way for a GM character to promote another character from the same wow account.

The solution was that I promoted the character of another player in the guild as GM and then that character promoted my alt as GM.

In the course of checking this out.

I have been able to complete both methods of transferring guild leadership:

  1. From the GM I used /gleader altname to promote my alt on same wow account to GM. This resulted in the outgoing GM becoming initiate (lowest rank).

  2. Logging into the new GM - I then used the Guild UI to reinstate the former GM back as GM - again, the outgoing GM became Initiate (lowest rank).

That character is the one that any restore mails should be going, so wanted to be sure it remains GM.
If they ever restore my deleted guildbank items, that is.

I think i have found out why it won’t work, the guild is created on Magtheridon, The character i want to make GM is transferred to Draenor. IT won’t happen, tried to make an other character on Magtheridon GM and it would work. So i will transfer my current GM to Draenor and make the character GM i play the most, this should not be an issue and be fixed imo.

EDIT;
Okay this won’t work. When i try to change realm i get the error that i need to transfer the ownership or disband the guild.
