They were showing just fine and now I can’t see any of them on mini map for quite a long while which seems unreal as they were pretty abundant so far?
You’ll only see disturbed dirt as long as you have shovels, took me longer to realize than I’d like to admit.

it’s working fine for me
to see the dirt you need to buy shovels from the camp
and they don’t stack and take up lots of space in your bag.
You can also get the shovels from Blacksmithing which has 20 charges instead of 5, saves you a lot of space.

but I have shovels and I can’t see packs either - like nowhere in the whole zone. I googled some people had similar issue but no solution >.<
I didnt even realize the shovel has charges. I thought I sold it by accident.
what i noticed is this:
1- which you already know, you can’t see dirts if you don’t have shovels
2- scout’s expedition packs, appear on the map. if another player beats you to it, it disappears from the map but remains clickable for a short duration.
3- there are random treasure boxes around camps and mob areas (like furbolgs, brackenhide hollow) those do not appear on the map.
4- additionally to the treasure boxes there are supply boxes/herbs/objects those can also be found in camps, near rivers in bushes etc, those are highlighted purple but also do not appear on the map.
5- at expedition Renown 16 a new kind of chests unlocks (magic bound), some of them are regular others are locked, those appear on the map normally.
assuming you’re not facing an actual bug or issue in the game, perhaps you’re playing on a very populated shard with other players farming those expedition packs for rep ?
idk, just found one pack so maybe u are right it’s just populated idk but the discrepancy is unusual
OK, that had to be a bug - now I can see them again - they are plentiful as before. idk
