Can't uninstall Windows Update (which worsened FPS)

Hello there,

The most recent windows updates, which I installed on the 15th of June 2023, have drastically decreased my laptop’s performance whilst playing WoW. Update: KB5027231.

At the start of patch 10.1 (with the AMD driver update) I had the same issues; 1-10 FPS almost all the time. But, an AMD-update on the 23th of May finally fixed all issues. No new driver update has since been installed, only a windows update.

I tried uninstalling the updates through the update history → uninstall updates. Unfortunately, 1 of the 2 updates says “uninstalled”, but will reappear in the list every time.

I’ve read that not all updates can be uninstalled, but those were specified to Feature Updates, not Quality updates. Is there any other way through which I can uninstall this update? Or does someone know the issues that keeps me from uninstalling that specific update?

Troubleshooting steps:

  • Uninstalling through the update history
  • Opening PowerShell and using the commands: wmic qfe list brief /format:table and following, wusa /uninstall /kb:5027231. This leads to the error: Installer encountered an error: 0x800f0905
  • Used troubleshooter for updates through windows settings.
  • Used the /scannow method in CMD
  • Tried through restarting with shift-pressed, and uninstalling through that window
  • Tried to look for a windows restore moment, but they’re all past the date on which I installed the update.

I tried most, if not all, of these steps in Windows Safe-Mode too.

It’s not the Windows Update, it’s the engine.

You’re CPU limited (even with the best CPU from the market  )

So, explain to me how my game was running perfectly with the latest AMD driver update (25th of May) and that specific windows version. While, when I downloaded the most recent update during my last lecture, and I launched the game 2 hours after, it consequently completely stopped functioning. Whilst all other settings were the same as before. Literally nothing changed from the side of Blizzard, AMD or Nvidia. It’s quite easy to isolate the specific issue then, isn’t it…

Windows updates are known to influence computer performance, especially while playing games. There’ve been > thousand reports on this for almost every update. I just wish I had understood that to this extent before downloading the last update.
