I have been playing WoW for a long time, with my prime being back in WOTLK.
I have always mained a Warlock, and played all specs a fair bunch.
After playing WOTLK classic since release i have noticed some things that does not seem to be mentioned on the forums, in the known bugs or anywhere else. It just seems like this is a dead topic that noone is mentioning. Let me give you a few examples.
Snapshotting
Snapshotting in WOTLK was how you could differ a good Warlock from a GREAT Warlock.
The whole point of the fight (As affli) was to apply Corruption at its strongest state and then keep that same strong Corruption up with Shadow Bolt as it refreshes the duration.
This is referred to as “The Affliction Minigame”
However, in WOTLK classic, it seems that if you snapshot a strong version of Corruption and then cast a Shadow Bolt, the corruption does get refreshed to it’s original duration, but it will also get new snapshotting values.
This seems weird to me. And i would like to hear input from other Warlocks.
Refreshing Dots
This one somewhat weaves into the subject above.
Lets play out a scenario.
I play demo and i apply Immolate & Corruption on the target with my current spellpower being 3500.
Normally, you would be able to refresh both of these at any time, regardless if the spell is weaker or not to maintain uptime.
In WOTLK classic, that is not the case.
(This statement below is not 100% tested, but have noticed it alot during dungeons and raids and cannot with certainty break down exactly what is the reason)
If i were to reapply corruption when it has 2 seconds left. With my current spellpower being lower than the already applied Corruption, it won’t let me. “A more powerful spell is already active”.
But the real pain is Immolate. If you do the same thing with Immolate you will spend the time casting and then once the cast is finished, not only will the new one not be applied but the original duration of the old one is also gone. So now i am left with no Immolate on the target and need to recast the ability again.
This has caused me to always let my dots fully run out before applying them, which just doesnt feel right.
Obviously Warlocks are strong in WOTLK regardless of this, but i just felt that i wanted to write these thoughts down and see if more people have caught up to this.
I am not by any means writing this demanding a fix “because im losing dps” im just genuinely interested how other Warlocks deal with these issues.
