I'm not quite sure if this is about a bug or 'working as intended from now on', but since the patch, "/castrandom" is not working as before the patch.
Before the patch, I used 'castrandom' in a macro to get a random mount from a list of mounts and it was a new random one every time I fired off the macro.
Now, when i fire off the (same as before) macro, it'll give me a random mount and as long as I remain logged on to the character, it'll return the same mount every time. After logging, I get a new mount and I'll 'keep' that mount for the rest of the session.
I can confirm this behaviour. Please fix this :)
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed ;-)
For the record: I didn't test with other spell types (yet).

For me, the behaviour is slightly different. When using "/castrandom", I always get the first mount in the list.
Any idea? (Up ^^)
Hey everyone,
I don't have any info on the actual /castrandom command, but I do use the Random Mount option from the Mount Collection screen myself. That still works a charm.
Just in case that has gone unnoticed to some (it is only a little button in the top right of the Mounts screen), perhaps that can be an option for use instead? It will select a random mount from the ones that you have tagged as being your 'favourite'. :)
Happy travels (on hopefully randomly selected mounts ^^).

I cannot set gladiator mounts on favorite so the summon random thing dosent work for me, i relay on the /castrandom
I like to have a different set of mounts and pets to match each character, so the Random Mount button isn't an option. I could make a script to get a random number and assign a number to each mount, but since the long macros addon is also broken that's not a good option either.

That definitely works, but what if you want to use different mounts on different characters? :(
Just to add, I noticed the summon random mount button was behaving odd last week. I have about 300 mounts and 30 or so on favourite, I got a new mount and it wouldn't let me add it to my fav list (there must be some kind of fav cap), so I unfavourited some but then then random button kept summoning the exact same mount.
Random can of course do this but I tried it across multiple characters and it was the same. Then I noticed that if i open the mount book and left click 'Horsey4' (so the image appears in the mount book), then the random mount button will only summon this one mount. If I left click 'Horsey7' then the random mount button then only starts summoning this one.
Note that I still have quite a few favourites so it's not like I just had this one or even a handful.
p.s. if there is indeed a cap on the number of mounts you can tag as favourites then the button isn't a good as the macro the guys up there are talking about.

This is no option to me, unless the collection favorites can be set character specific.
I think the kinds of mounts my characters use are a very important part of their identity.
E.g. a Paladin should not ride a demon mount.

1. Give us the option to set character specific favourits.
2. Give us the option to define 3 types of favourites: Underwater, ground and flying mounts.
3. Give us for all of these 3 categories a seperate button, so that we can decide which kind of favourite mount we want to use for the current situation.
Why the different buttons?
Sometimes you want a flying mount, sometimes a ground mount. The unified "summon favourite mount"-button doesn't give us the option to decide.
Looks like Blizz don't realise some mounts can fly and some can not.28/07/2018 12:27Posted by NarialeeneI don't have any info on the actual /castrandom command, but I do use the Random Mount option from the Mount Collection screen myself. That still works a charm.
I had a /castrandom macro for ground and another macro for flying mounts.
Plus, I want to use differend mounts on differents characters.
You don't have any info? Contact someone who has the info.
Bring back the /castrandom macro!
Not sure if you're a fan of addons or not but with Litemount you can set different mounts for different characters then type
/litemount macro
to create a random summon button.
You can even set locations, but I think that needs to be updated for 8.0.

I upvoted the relevant posts, but just to add to this: The Random Mountbutton from your favourites has NEVER been an option for a lot of us, which is why we were forced into using the cast random macros in the first place.
Just fix the macro.
Just fix the macro.
For those wondering, create a macro with following:
this will cast the ran "Summon random favorit mount" from your mount tab.
you could also do:
where math.random method will picka a number between 1-1024, but this will not guarantee summoning of a mount though :)
/run C_MountJournal.SummonByID(0);this will cast the ran "Summon random favorit mount" from your mount tab.
you could also do:
/run C_MountJournal.SummonByID(math.random(1,1024));where math.random method will picka a number between 1-1024, but this will not guarantee summoning of a mount though :)
Random favorite mount will never be useful until favorite mounts are at least class specific and maybe not even then.
Most of my characters have two to five versions of macros with /castrandom for different colors of transmog sets, something random favorite mount can't ever hope to do.

Hi,
Appreciate the reply.
Favourite mount/summon favourite mount is account-wide.
If I want my Druid to summon a random wolf, but my monk to summon a random cloud serpent, this doesn't work.
This is quite an oversight because the types of mounts a Warlock would like to randomly summon would be different to a Paladin for most players.
It would be great if you could have character specific favourite mounts, maybe in addition to account-wide.
Thanks,
Just a side thought: if the dismount command (either command itself or keybind) worked on druid's flight form, that would be nice as well. I never used flight form on druid unless there was a real need for it - I am too used to pressing the dismount keybind ~10yd above ground when flying to a mob/object I want to interact with.
Hi again, if you want to randomize, create a table and use the math.random method to fetch index numbers from it, then call SummonByID function. Like this
a={any, number, of, mountID}
so
656 summons Llothien Prowler
199 Amani War Bear
899 Abyss Worm
You can google the mount ids you want or use a simple macro to check all your mount ids in your mounts tab.
/script a={656,199,899} ;n=math.random(#a);C_MountJournal.SummonByID(a[n])a={any, number, of, mountID}
so
656 summons Llothien Prowler
199 Amani War Bear
899 Abyss Worm
You can google the mount ids you want or use a simple macro to check all your mount ids in your mounts tab.
