I was on Nethergarde Keep server and therefore had to choose where to go when they close it down. About 2 weeks ago I moved all my chars over and gave them a consistent naming convention. This name included the word “Gay” in it which I am.
It was obviously flagged by homophobes in the game and my first character was requested for a name change. The second char had similar issues and I opened a ticket to which I received a generic link to their policies and they auto resolved the ticket.
When my third char got flagged I was given a 24 hour ban. Now, this shouldn’t be a thing for having “Gay” in the name when there are people running round with actually horrific names let alone the fact there is nothing wrong with the word. But add onto that the latest response from a ticket that was a bug in Cata told me to go to Call Of Duty support to resolve the issue…
What is blizzard support doing? Is homophobia now part of their policy? What is there to do given there is no ombudsman in the UK for private gaming corporations.

Overt sexual is forbidden for names. And is sorry not you or Blizz to decide if name offensive - if too many report Offensive to them. then it is.

There are multiple dictionary definitions pertaining to the word “gay”. It also refers to the word “happy”, or “brightly coloured”, along with the definition for same-sex sexual orientation. It can also be a first name, or a last name, in some languages.
Your concern about it being overtly sexual is misplaced, if your concern is that it implies the existence of same-sex relationships. But by that metric, Blizz could ban anyone using a username including “father” or “mother” because they both have implications of the same thing - but in this case, a heterosexual relationship. But one suspects that this isn’t the actual part you have a problem with…
Lastly, “gay” itself does not purely boil down to “overt sexual” nature. Someone could be attracted to the same sex without it progressing into that territory.
And it could just be a name. And that’s fine too - certainly not a bannable offense by any metric.

I have no problem, I just tell poor fellow what says naming rules, and that is not Blizz doing anything, but many player report him.
Those I report - I am very alone in reporting - stay forever in game. Mostly some called naughty body parts or use of same in my native language or other non-english, I know because THAT bothers me.

This is a PEGI12 game and names is subject to the terms which says no inappropriate names may be used. Since "gay’ refers to such themes, it can be deemed inappropriate for the game and flagged for rename.
I recommend to self-flag similar themed names before they are reported as each valid report has escalating penalties.

It’s not homophobic to enforce the rules that apply to everyone. It’s a bit entitled to think that.

So they should remove this item from the game because it has the word gay in it, gotcha.

Seems like Gayeong is a bit light in the loafers.
Would they ban a player for using “Straight” in their name? Would they deem that “inappropriate”?
