Hey there,i met you in whispers from Dalaran (Broken isles) channel

cata was the last expansion where the designers put down their foot and said “this is a game. it’s meant to be hard. we’ll make an engaging, interactive and HARDCORE expansion that brings real sense of accomplishments to everyone who survives the challenge!”.

Hey, yes you recognised me in /2 Trade chat and whispered me. Whispers works independently and appears in the General chat tab as that is the default chat for whispers, emotes, and interactions in addition to hosting the zone-based /1 General chat.

Players can whisper each other while being in different zones, and even different planets and universes. I think I was in my Garrison on Draenor at the time.

I would say that the game could do with another Cata type expansion - make the old zones relevant again like they experimented with in Uldum and that Pandaria one in BfA. Give the players(especially new ones) a reason to go to STV, Ironforge, Dalaran, etc…

Thing is not many survived the challenge and those who didn’t no longer gave money to Bliz.
Wrath made the game more accessible and the sub numbers reached 12 million.
Cata went harder (due to the whining about too many Wrath Babies) and subs plummetted.
MOP reversed this again and sub came back up somewhat.

I dont think a single expansion ruined wow. I think its more atune to lazy development based around the supposed crazy need for them to reiterate everything even if they have something that works and works well.

They also seem to design based on timegating player interaction and reward rather that concentrating on making a game that is oh i dont know fun.

Instead of leaving classes/specs that work well alone they have to tinker which then creates a disconnect for players who have mained a certain class - a lot can be blamed on the borrowed power systems. Then you have other classes who are screaming out for some attention and love who never seem to get the light of day.

The one thing that id love to see expanded on is the class hall stuff. It was an excellent story telling vehicle and much better than the stuff that followed.

They cant help themselves though gotta tinker and they of course know best…

OK, thanks for that, tho it’s been years since Cata, what’s kept you?

i feel like we’ve had much bigger problems in wow’s life time than cataclysm…
i wouldn’t even put cataclysm on my top 3 worst expansions

Although I didn’t play a great deal of Cataclysm. What I did play, I quite enjoyed.

For me, the game went down hill when WoD came out and for the first time, Blizz failed to get me to want to buy the expansion (even after a free weekend). Legion was the 2nd time Blizz failed to part me with my money.

BFA came out and I paid for that expansion because it was something exciting.

But now, I couldn’t find a reason to play this game if I had to pay for it. Luckily I’ve gained enough gold to keep me occupied for a while longer.

But I’ve not been enjoying this season so far. I can’t see myself spending much more time playing it.

that’s right, but since the price of the game and the amount of content we get has nothing to do with their profits, I as a player don’t really care if they lose a chunk of the player base as long as we get a working game in return.

I think the problem for the dev team is that, when they do this they lose a ton of subs, you can see it in the history of the game quite easily. Make it easier and it’s more popular, make it harder and the expansion basically flops.

Now it’s fine to say you don’t care but the reality is that the budget likely gets cut if the money men no longer see a healthy return. The return is very likely quite bound up with the popularity of the game so it’s likely a choice between less and less content or making content easier to get the numbers to support development of new content.

Edit: I say that but there is definitely a chance that Blizzard has burned some bridges with SL that might mean the more casual base is just gone at this point.

it’s shame that it is like that
because cataclysm with it’s challenging content was a WONDERFUL expansion.

Can we say that cataclysm and every expansion except wod was good and shadowlands by itself ruined the game.

in the past i said cata was a terrible exp. BUT its misfortune it was to arrive after Wotlk. Its true the dungeon were very challenging and the revamp in some zones wasnt so bad.

I honestly don’t understand how you guys can say the game is casual unfriendly now. like, what do you mean by “casual”?
any player can achieve any reward without even trying. you can have a legendary (two) without committing to a raiding guild or even pugs. there is no content locked behind high end solo challenges.
the grinds are nowhere near as lengthy like back in BC/wotlk. so what more can casuals possibly want in your opinion?

Doesn’t matter what I think they want. Blizzard have managed to find it in the past though so they and you only really need to take a look at the games history and see what changed if you really want to know. To me there is an obvious correlation between less challenging and more popular, more challenging and less popular.

nothing really changed. the game is a lot more accessible today to people with less time (or skill) on their hands. it’s less popular because because FIFA has more variety in their releases than WoW expansions and people are starting to realize wow will never become the game they hope it will.

OK by that logic candy crush is the best game in the world. indie games with 20k players are much better for one particular player than AAA titles like CoD, WoW, AC etc.
again. I don’t work for blizz and I don’t care how many people play wow. it has no impact on my game experience
