RNG continues to rule WoW. As usual I got a bad vault and had to take a leg piece but no catalyst charge so no gear progression. All the other players who’ve done the same content as me are sitting at 470+ meanwhile I’m massively behind due to bad RNG.

But that means that you have used 2 catalyst charges already so you must have 2 set.
So if we were in the last season you would not have that and you would have to wait another 3 weeks for any to become available.
So this is better, no?

No worries. Last weeks vault i had in one of my options a shiny (mythic track) chest piece and i somehow mananged to click on the tokens. Then halfway the week i decided to reroll too 
We just had like 3 vaults. Everything is fine. Have fun

It’s like people don’t understand that gear progression is the beating heart of this game and that it’s actually supposed to take around at least half of the season to get kitted out, after which the max geared competition can start (and most casuals quit because they’ve consumed the content, which is why .5 and .7 are good to have)
I’m in 4 set and I don’t raid. This was unheard of in previous expansions.
Bad luck is definitely a thing, but it’s always been a thing. It does sound like tremendously bad luck to already now be in a situation where you get nothing out of a nearly filled vault, but at least it’s better than the chest from BfA.
PS: My item level is 468 and I can still do 20’s. For most this isn’t actually that big of a problem.

Yep.
I have 4-set. It was a slog in the past to have to wait for the 4-set for several weeks.
I didn’t mind the chest in BfA, but I had only just started playing the game so everything felt like a big reward to me. Having said that, yeah, the vault is better.

The real problem with either of those systems is that the loot table for them is very large which results in having a very small chance to get what you want. You can’t just go for a particular boss, you can’t trade it with friends, etc.
Actually, come to think of it… trading it with friends.
This sounds exploitable - people selling vaults for gold and whatnot. But there might be an interesting solution buried in there somewhere if we can kill that exploit somehow.

I have 4-piece set on my main (This character) and my alt, from catalyst and LfR runs (Yeah, i’m a LfR-scrub, so sue me), and i have a better quality shoulder item on my alt ready for catalyst…ing? If anything, gearing is pretty fast for a raid tier that will last for several more months.
The “One charge every two weeks from the start” is better than “One charge every week, but catalyst won’t open up for the first month”, IMO
how would you have survived from classic to bfa with no guaranteed tier set by week 8.
people who think tier set is a must by week 4 in new season i have no words for.

How about this one:
You can trade a vault drop with another player provided that drop can only have come about as a result of what you did with that player.
So for example if you want to share an item that only comes from a +18 you can share it with the person you ran a +18 or +20 with, but you cannot share it with someone you did a +16 with and nothing higher, nor can share it with someone whom you haven’t had any runs with even if that person did +26’s all week.
Further, you have to trade. In other words, if you send him a +18, he has to send you an item you could’ve gotten in return. So let’s say you only did a +19 that week, then he can’t trade you an item that would only drop from a +20, but he can exchange a +17 item for a +18 one of yours - or of course an 18 for an 18.
EDIT: This might also encourage you to keep the people you meet in PuG’s on your friends list so you can talk to them afterwards if they have something for trade.

Every week we have a post like this. Did these people not play prior to 9.2.5? This game existed for 17 years without a catalyst, and people still got gear. Have some patience.

So you’d rather go back to no catalyst until around 8 weeks have passed?
But you can get up to 483 just by spamming +16/17 . So i somehow doubt its gv what is problem here
i’m still sad that i missclicked SET PIECE in my first vault.

I’m really enjoying the change to the catalyst. It’s so much better getting it from the start.
Obviously you can still be unlucky but most people are getting into two set and four set much quicker this season.

Because the raid loot have always been **** doesn’t excuse it to still be it.
Just because you dont have full BiS within the first 3 weeks, it doesnt mean the loot system is bad. Its called gear progression, and has always been a essential part of any MMO.
