Cause of external SSD game crash and how fix?

I identified that WoW crashes, upon loading screen (hearthstone, portal, etc), when it is installed on my external SSD (NTFS). The game shuts off and leaves an “unexpected error” very often.

Scanned and repaired 3 times. Makes no difference.

All other games work perfectly fine installed on my external ssd. I hope I can make it work with WoW aswell.
Do I need to enable write caching?

I have a 3.20, gen 2, 10gbps, 4TB. External SSD with USB-C to USB-C cable. connected to a usb-c thunderbolt 4 port on my laptop.

It is plugged into a thunderbolt 4 usb-c port on my laptop, because that is the only usb-c port I have on my laptop. And the ssd came with usb-c cable only.

I have 3 other 3.20 ports, but that is the normal usb-a port, for which my ssd did not include a cable for that. Not sure if my cheap usb-c to usb-a cable would be ok for that?

Would it be better to use usb-c to usb-a (3.20 ssd and port)?
Or usb-c (3.20 ssd) to usb-c(thunderbolt 4 port)?

And if usb-a (3.20 port) is better, should I use a cheap usb-c to usb-a cable, or do I need some kind of special cable that supports 3.20 for that?
Or a converter?

thanks.
