CD reset in target dummy room

Basically what’s on the title.

Why not have a target reset mob in the target practice room?

Sometimes you just want to practice opening rotations, experiment with builds etc but you have to wait pointlessly for long CD (looking at you especially army of the dead…). In SL when you had to choose covenant, you could ask the mobs to reset your skill, so doesn’t seem to be a technical issue (at least from my rather basic pov).

Not being able to change talents when there’s a CD going also feels odd, though I can see this being a spaghetti code issue not so much a conscious choice. Couldn’t there be an internal timer that keeps the CD going if you’ve changed talents, to prevent people from “cheating in the open world” or something…?

They can do it in the Dracthyr starting zone. So why can’t they do it in the Training Dummy room?

every random bg is a room filled with dummies tho

I’ll take it further; why isn’t there an instanced training room where you can create situations (like spawning certain types of NPCs) to practice and experiment with different abilities and specs, not just DPS?

One can only dream, I guess.

This seems like a perfect way to repurpose the proving grounds, instead of how it works now, you can enter and create your own training scenarios, make it happen Blizzard!

Guild wars 2 has a instance like this and its amazing. Can customize the target dummy, how many there are, what debuffs/buffs you and the target has with a presave to quick load the last summoned dummy, also has a extra action button that resets ALL cooldowns when out of combat.

People would exploit it.

I’ll play devil’s advocate for a bit. Let’s say it can be exploited in faction capitals in an open world pvp environment, sure. (I haven’t really seen a proper pvp raid on a main city in probably over a decade but either way).

Hell, let’s take this another maddening step further, and say that people will exploit it somehow on the open world on the dragon isles. Not sure how in what scenario, travelling back to that room in Valdrakken to get the reset would be worth it. Maybe people are duelling, would you really go cheat a duel like that? I’m sure it’s technically possible to make the mob disappear if you’re in pvp combat…

It really doesn’t sound worth exploiting.

That’s a cool idea. Considering the game basically doesn’t offer any kind of tutorial for no class, something like that would be a useful addition, for those who want to improve their rotations or experiment with talents. Getting optimised builds from wowhead/class discord is one thing, performing optimally is completely different.

???

What stops people from doing a big pull in m+, blowing all CDs, hearthstoning back to reset CDs, teleporting back to the dungeon after they’ve reset CDs?

I have to admit I didn’t think of that particular scenario sounds very creatively awful.

I’m sure they can add some defence against that, for example, the hypothetical mob resets active instances and encounters in the same function that resets the CD. Problem solved, degen behaviours averted. Doesn’t affect weekly lock outs as they seem to be on a different system.

So if I don’t like a group and want them to definitely not be able to complete a key, I can just hearthstone and go there and reset the instance even if they want to finish it without me?

It’s not a perfect solution but you can go to the proving grounds, it resets your cooldowns when you start a new challenge.

There can be ways to stop the system from being exploited. For example, if the training room is instanced, they could make it where your abilities are set on cool down only when you leave the training area. The logic is you only wait once for cooldowns to get restored as opposed to every time you’re done with a particular opener, rotation, or other training scenario, thus saving time on your practice sessions.

Or, even make it that cooldown timers in the instance are separate from the outside world, ensuring that your abilities remain on cooldown once you leave the training area if you had used them prior to entering.

Just some examples.

Basically what Sarcastico said above me.

An instanced training room which doesn’t let you get in as long as you’re in a group that’s running another instance is one way.

Thinking about it, this might be an even better way of doing it, this way you could add free potions and other similar perishables, which disappear as soon as you exit the room.

There’s always going to be some sort of system solution to prevent this type of behaviour. In the end of the day, that’s a very simple quality of life upgrade which doesn’t get on anyone’s way.
