Certain low value items on AH for ridiculously high prices?

Can someone explain this to me why most items, let’s say shrouded cloth, but pretty much any item has, in addition to normal costing ones… some items priced for like 300k-1 million gold per item? And it’s like that every day so some people are listing single cloths that are normally worth 1-2 gold for hundreds of thousands of gold… what’s the point? am I missing something?

To trick idiots into buying them if they aren’t paying attention or if they sort things stupidly.

Sometimes gold sellers used to do this. They would get people to put trash items up and then they would buy it. To make it look like a legit gold transaction. Not sure if that’s still a thing though.

This is what i heard too, gold seller would buy some random grey trash item for 9,999,999g on the AH to transfer 10 million gold ‘‘legit’’ as if blizzard can’t see ah transaction history

I can’t imagine this ever working and not being picked up as gold selling, but maybe people just hope that someone would donate goldcap out of altruism or something

Isn’t it a way to transfer gold cross faction too?

but to buy the most expensive items u’d need to buy all less pricey ones as well

I don’t think so. The AH is first come first serve, but this is only true for resources at the same price range. Pretty sure you can select at what price point you want to buy any item.

Hey. There is Rich people who sometimes buy off the whole supply of lets say a specific Herb. So they control the market and make profit selling it for more than bought.

Then there is people who put such things for lets say 200k gold in the ah in hope for these rich to actually not pay attention and buy it too because the price is very high anyways and they hope for them to not notice.

No problem

When you throw a bait into a water there is a chance you will catch fish
and believe me from my experience there are lot of fishes in wow
It’s not like 100 % work strategy it’s more of BAIT if you are stupid
and the best way how to make money is to make them on stupid people
Did you ever saw TV show or whatever it is where they sell people stuff?? like knives and other things?
and they talk sweet and everything is BEST of the BEST?

I think that borderline dishonest people like that should be dealt with severely. example held in a headlock and force fed sugar free gummy bears.

Lucky for me that I never have that amount of gold. The players who do this are the purest scum you will ever have the misfortune of encountering…

Certainly in the older days it used to be a tactic on the neutral x-faction AH in Ratchet etc. for a player to transfer gold to a buddy in the opposite faction. Iirc you couldn’t bid on auctions made by your own account but a ‘friend’ could do it for you if you trusted them.

Yes it is, its what I do to transfer gold between my horde and alliance characters. I get a grey item and mark it up over 100k or so in order to transfer gold.

Exactly. There is a video of a streamer buying a flask for 1 million gold because he didn’t pay attention. I think it was Snutz from C9.

Always check the total price of the purchase before clicking on validate.
The other day I wanted to buy 38 " Ancient Mana Potion " for the achieve " Mass Obliteration " they were at 60 silver.

I put purchase of 38 potions, but the total price was over 20k gold, so I canceled and in fact only 13 potions were priced at 60 silver, the rest was around 1000 gold.

I’m sure some players don’t pay attention and automatically click accept.

True, I’ve never bought something too pricey, but I spent about 8k more than I needed to when buying a legendary item because when I clicked to buy it, it pre selected the most expensive one for some reason… so now I triple check xD

It;s either kok-up or conspiracy.
First is people make a mistake and think they’re putting a stack of loads on so put a high price.
Second is they are trying to trick people into buying a cloth by mistake (by not checking the unit price vs stack price).

Depending on how cynical you are is which option you think is correct.

Generally these listings don’t last very long and also it’s not done with Shrouded Cloth.
The way this AH works right now means you can’t choose your seller, it always buys the cheapest one, so for this method to work the gold buyer must use an item which isn’t typically sold at the AH.
