is it possible to switch the distance to an objective from yards to meter?

No.
German client apparently says meters but it’s 1:1 aka 35 yards = 35 meters. The real units aren’t that far apart either.
So you can just tell yourself it’s meters whenever you read yards in game.
It doesn’t really matter much, since yards in WoW aren’t really actual yards. It’s just the name they used for the distance.

Technicly it would be possible to do the addon since it’s only in the text but it might be bit tedious to do that. Especially if you want accurate conversion instead of 1:1 ratio.
Actually imperial units fit into fantasy world, not into real world

I’m not an expert on the topic but if you can ask UI addon makers to add that to their features I’m sure it’s not hard to just change the word yard to meter, considering

Would be silly seeing stuff like “ability x hits the player and everyone around him in 7.32 meter radius”
But it’s probably possible to do.
