Blizzard should change the gladiator requirements to either the old 0.5% of ladder or require at least 2.4k mmr for wins to count towards gladiator.
How current Gladiator boosts work is quite sad. They boost a person to 2.4k cr and then tank their own mmr all the way down to 1-1.5k. Then they team up with the boosted person and grind his gladiator wins at 1.8k mmr where they win in opener. If they gain too much mmr they just leave the person again and go drop some more mmr.
This makes it so the boosted person doesn’t have to do much at all since most of the games are done at low mmr but they still count towards gladiator wins.
This is a bit off topic rambling but I find it hard to believe that these guys do it for gold. They are boosting literally every day and most of them have unreal number of games played (~10k+).
I agree with what you are saying, but changing Gladiator back to what it was won’t happen, the MMR requirement is a realistic solution though.
I’d say wins done on 2300+ MMR should count towards the 50 wins because sometimes you loose a few games and then your MMR is way lower than your cr and not getting glad wins because you dropped down to 2350 MMR, while your cr is 2460 is also kinda stupid.
Overall this won’t fix the problem of boosting/coaching entirely though, but will make it, so that boosting people is way way more time consuming, so that it will be far more expensive and less people will be able/willing to afford it and probably also having less people offer those services, since farming out 50 wins with worse players on higher MMR is not fun at all.
Blizz definitely needs to do something about it though because due to the new SL Glad mount, boosting/coaching will be out of control and we will easily have 7000+ players getting “gladiator”… but we all know Blizz won’t act; only after it completely gets out of hand, then they might do something about it 2-3 seasons later.
Sure, I’m all for changing the requirement, since currently it’s just way too easy to get, compared to how much harder it was back in the day, but that probably won’t happen because this would affect way more people negatively than it would benefit others and we all know Blizz tries to appeal to the masses, which is probably why it got changed in the first place.
First of all they should focus on not letting PVE gear and stupid ideas like corruption system work in PVP environment. It allows classes like DH to basically faceroll and get 2k rating with perfect pve gear and full corruption set.
After thinking a little bit more about all of this stuff, I think personally this is what Blizz should have done to rework the PvP System because the old one was flawed aswell:
Make 2400 be Elite and farming out the 50 wins should have awarded us with the unarmored version of the current seasons mount, filling the gap between Duelist and Gladiator, so that players would have had a reason to push higher than 2100.
Also they should have kept Gladiator 0.5%, but made it so that it’s 0.5% of the highest players instead of 0.5% of the highest characters, which basically means make a single player not be able to occupy multiple glad slots and I’m saying that as someone, who did take multiple glad slots away, which I acknowledge is an unfair thing to do, but then again Glad mount was not accwide, so I guess you can’t blame me because 99.99% of players in my position would have done the same.
Yes they won’t, but it would require more effort from the boosters and the boosted person would need to learn something instead of the current system where they farm glad wins at 1.8k mmr.
Personally I think they should change it back to the old percentage system. If they are unhappy with the 0.5% they could change the value, but the problem with it right now is, that it basically has no value anymore.
Before Battle for Azeroth the rating of titles changed a lot, based on how many active players we had. In some seasons you got gladiator with 2,400 in others it was close to 2,900 but no matter what, if you got the title you belonged to the top 0.5% in that season.
But now gladiator has become like the old duelist or perhaps even rival, if the season just have enough active players. So when someone has the glad achievement, it does not mean anything anymore. You cannot say if he is a good player who can compete on the old gladiator level or just a rival who got lucky because the season had enough player.
Especially for pve player this is currently just free achievements. They only have to bring mythic raid gear, pve the opponents to death and roll to the title they never could have earned in an expansion before bfa. Not only because of the gearing system and the imbalance because of it, but also because gladiator is a fix rating achievement now, not respecting the ladder at all!
