Changes for Cataclysm Classic

Wrath Era servers.
OR
No accountwide anything.
Keep old talent trees.
Keep old world unharmed.

Cataclysm is basically Wotlk with some improvement and some inconvenience.
It has nothing to do with Retail lol wtf we are far away than this s*** we get since WoD.

Again, ask for your Wotlk ERA and let us play Cataclysm.

Wotlk is far away more popular than TBC
Very more fun to chain ICC again and again than Sunwell. Because Wotlk is a raid log game thanks his good gameplay.
It’s exactly the same on pserv.

And Wotlk is a very good candidate for SoM. Very popular on pserv for pro-Wotlk players.

  1. Chromie time makes sense from a player perspective but it’s not the same thing, old world/new world, old quests/new quests. It’d be a lot of work and development + some decisions to make, too much to ask from a small team with no budget.

  2. No LFR - LFR was only added in Dragon Soul anyway, not a big part of the expansion and not why the expansion is considered bad, it was considered bad long before LFR.

  3. This is vague and meaningless, which feats of strength? What things are unobtainable? Why does this matter?

  4. Accountwide achievements/mounts/pets - Again, these weren’t negative changes, most people probably prefer accountwide progress to quite some extent.

Cataclysm has much deeper and bigger problems as to why it was less popular.

This is assuming that Cataclysm will be a mandatory ‘upgrade’ (more like downgrade in my opinion) and there will be no option to continue to play on a Wrath-era server. If so…

  • Make the old world accesible by using a Chrome Time to alternate between classic azeroth and cataclysm azeroth. This way the old game doesn’t just go away.

I might possibly, under very specific and limited conditions consider keeping my account active on an ad-hoc basis if this happened - possibly switching to a monthly sub that I could deactivate when not actively playing, but having the option to do some group stuff with the guild when the mood struck me - effectively treating WoW as just another video game among many that I replayed when the mood struck me.

The main issue I have is that even with the old world still accessible I’d still be forced to play with all the other profoundly negative aspects of Cataclysm - the total removal of all RP mechanics, the truncated talent trees, maybe even the ghastly shared achevements, mounts etc. Not to mention the dreadful possibility of Xrealm servers.

And what would happen during the inevitable MOP pre-patch? I guess we’d be forced to play with the Diablo III-style ‘pick and mix’ talent system after talent trees were removed entirely - not to mention removal of offhand weapons, ammunition etc. All of which would be deal breakers for me. So ‘Chromie Time’ would always be, at best, a short-term fix.

  • No Looking For Raid finder

Horrible decision to add this, no argument from me.

  • Less feat of strengths, make things obtainable.

Very difficult to implement some of the ones that rely upon pre-Cataclysm mechanics which would still be scrapped even if the old world were left intact via Chromie Time.

  • No accountwide achievements and mounts/pets

Again that one would be a no-brainer. Shared mounts, pets and achievements is one of the things that would likely be a deal breaker for me - but having said that I’m pretty sure those came with the MOP pre-patch not Cataclysm. I may be wrong though, it’s been quite a few years.

As i would love to see cataclysm classic:

  • pre nerfed hc dungeons.
  • no raid finder
  • random dungeon finder
  • vash jir raid( the deleted raid )

Yeah but in this case, it would be till lvl 80. Then you get dragged back for cataclysm 80-85. And yeah, the npc is there but she is there only for some zones, not an entire world for pre cataclysm.

This is true!

General :

  • Re put Wotlk Buff & Debuff but with keeping the number of classes that provide same Buff & Debuff. For exemple BL on Mage, Magic damage increased by Rogue, Physical damage increase by Frost DK. Because on Wotlk it’s a bit hard to make a guild and being sure that you have every Buff & Debuff and someone doesn’t leave the guild for some reason etc. and then recruit again & again…

  • Tauren Paladin shouldn’t exist. The design “everything can be everything” is cancer and destroy every logic in this game. It’s a reason why i hate retail for that and i don’t play it.

  • Hard to accept to see a Worgen skin healing with a white priest dress. For me Worgen should be a Class/Race like Deamon Hunter. The design “everything can be everything” is cancer and destroy every logic in this game. Worgen is also too much pixars like, we should have the old scary skin.

  • Cataclysm is also a big improvement of graphics, do it again, just put some assets/textures from Retail on it. Some modders did it on Wotlk Pserv, why not you ?

Dungeons :

  • Pre nerf dungeons, wait for release raids and make dungeons a real Phase, short ofc but not like everytime. Dungeons is very fun because you use spells that you can’t use in raid, there is more gameplay in an hard dungeon than raid…

  • Delete the lucky buff +5-15% at the first Phase at least.

  • Cataclysms dungeons are beautiful and very quality, except for Dead Mines and Shadowfang Keep… improving them could be cool.

  • Adding 1 or 2 dungeons could be cool because there is many dungeons at the start of Cataclysme, ofc i prefer their quality instead of many bad Wotlk dungeons, but because you don’t have to create an entire game i think you have the time for it.

Raids :

  • Of course adding the raid you couldn’t made bac in the days.

Classes :

  • I don’t know for others but i know my Hunter lost some spells, like Eyes of the Beast. This is sad and there is no reason to delete none dps spells.
  • Again for Hunters, you deleted amo, this is the perfect exemple of why retail is garbage and not an RPG game. Instead of just click on delete because it’s simple, why not create a special additional bag only for hit ? Hunters without Quiver are not Hunter. The good thing with this solution is you don’t wast space on your bad and you don’t destroy the logic of the Vanilla Hunter. Buffs are another exemple.

It’s just 2 exemples but i’m sure that every classes lost some stuff for no reason or with a BAD (mean SIMPLE) solution.

This feels like Dungeon Finder all over again… At least I assume everyone will be fine with RDF then, since it was right there at the start this time.

Cata is farther from retail than it is from Vanilla. While the zones are there you could say the very same about both TBC and Wrath so that doesn’t fly either.

Honestly, I would prefer Cataclysm as close to it as it was. That said I do miss pre-nerf heroic they were so much fun.

The pre-nerf dungeons were a reason people didn’t like the expansion at launch, they were a bit like the current HC+ dungeons, just a bit too long and the challenge was more about tripping you up and wasting your time than fun difficulty.

No raid-finder, only relevant for Dragon Soul anyway, which was a crap raid. Random Dungeon Finder, a disaster with pre-nerf dungeons as it was the first time. Vashjir raid was probably abandoned because it wasn’t very good and nowhere near finished, how are they gonna pickup the pieces of a half baked pie 15 years later and re-heat it?

I’m sorry I think everyone comes in here with ideas to fix Cataclysm that are ultimately meaningless and completely miss why Cataclysm was the worst expansion ever released.

Disaster with the average skills of players in 2010.
What about in 2023 ? Nothing.

RDF is not a problem on Cataclysm pserv.

So we’re forgetting that Blizzard had to nerf T5 into oblivion because it was too hard for the playerbase, or how guilds that had multiple glaives and BT on farm wiped 100x to Mu’ru in Classic.

Private servers are also not a good measurement, they attract the most hardcore players in concentration, aside from the fact that they are mechanically broken, incorrect and they sell loot on stores.

He is just in love with private servers

What’s the link between being in love with pserv and talking about facts ?
Nothing.

But casual player like you with 1/100 experience know better than all.

I don’t fully agree here. The HC+ dungeons don’t have any “difficulty” or “Challenge”, they just have increased health and some annoying extra feature that’s easy to deal with if you aren’t asleep.

The difficulty in pre-nerf Cata heroics was that mobs could easily mess your tank upif you didn’t CC / kite correctly, and bosses had mechanics that you couldn’t ignore. They were very punishing. A lot of them also required your tank to know what they’re doing (3rd boss of BRC for example)

Cata had my favourite set of dungeons that this game has ever released. They were fantastic to do in groups you’d formed yourself (via guildies and friends) but sometimes running them with randos was much like pulling your own teeth out. Watching warthbabies not even attempt to do mechanics was frustrating as hell.

Monkeyboy didn’t play TBCC or Classic, he’s a WoTLK P-server tourist.

Interestingly enough, you keep talking about private servers and have never spoken a single fact.

Do you even read what you’re trying to write? We’ll add one extra dollar for that too. 1305 dollars.

Congratulations, you’ve managed to make 1305 stupid posts with a post count of 1299.

Its a whole different situation now lol.
I mean… if you would release heroic + back in 2008… people would be hardstuck and only the elitists could complete it. Its 2023, most people know what to do and have loads of exp. I dont see the problems like it was back in cata when you felt satisfying if you completed it.

Well, wotlk was fixed with retail features while it wasnt broken because it was the best expansion right?

Because it makes the achievements and the vanity items more meaningful. It was in the original WLK that I first changed main; I had mained a priest throughout TBC and towards the end of WLK I changed main to a warrior, and when I “caught up” in achievement points it solidified the fact that my warrior was now my main, but even so my priest had unique items that my warrior did not have.

In short: each character felt unique with its own unique story. The account-wide stuff in retail destroys that feeling. It makes me feel as though I’m playing my bnet account, not my characters.

I would say that WLK is far more like current retail than Cata was (at launch, before the nerfs). The gameplay loop of WLK is very similar to that in retail, what with AoE zerg being the optimal strategy in any and all situations. Even with HC+ I feel like this strategy is still far too powerful. The dungeon experience in Cataclysm was more like TBC, but more polished imo. But it wasn’t an environment that suited the WLK generation of brainless pugs who only want to blast through the content alongside complete strangers with no desire to communicate in order to get their daily rewards.

Precisely this. I like that Blizzard created HC+ for WLK, but it still cannot really compare to TBC or Cataclysm dungeons. I think HC+ kind of reveals the weak design of WLK’s dungeons. Take Malganis. What, exactly, can you do in that fight to mitigate his abilities? As a healer you can dispel the sleep and that is about it. For tank and DPS it’s just tank and spank and hope you don’t get hit by sleep. It’s a very dull fight. Anub’arak, on the other hand, became a rather interesting fight with just the health and damage increase. I think it’s my favourite encounter, and I don’t think the web wrap would have been necessary to make that fight interesting.

Was in Draenor only. Does not belong to Cata!
