I’ve never had this kind of trouble with a gaming account before, and it’ll probably drive me away from the game entirely, but I figure I’ll make one last attempt to fix the issue, which is this:
I want to set up 2FA for my account. I go to the relevant account setting. Turns out, I’m allowed to type in a phone number with a prefix from the country where I created the account, which is not where I reside anymore. So I go to change the country, and apparently I’m required to attach a utilities bill? I really don’t feel comfortable sharing such documents online unless necessary, and it shouldn’t be just for a gaming account. So I look at the FAQ and there’s a self-change option which allows me to type in information like the serial for an old authenticator which I still have. It still wants a damn utilities bill after that. Can someone sort me out, or is this where I say goodbye because I’m not even allowed to set up 2FA without extra hurdles?
It is necessary to provide some sort of proof to show that you actually live there and not wanting to change just because (like if you think that country has better prices).
I don’t quite understand why you are so upset over this. Blizzard already have you name, DOB and banking information (including the address linked to your bank). They already have more than enough identifying personal information on you should they actually want to do anything malicious.
Also under GDPR (assuming as you are posting this on EU forums, you are covered by this either by being European or British), they aren’t allowed to do anything with this information and it will be destroyed after use.
Also… it’s a utility bill, they can’t do anything with it anyway, they just want to know your new residence and proof you actually live there (hence a bill for the property).
