I have a lot on my plate atm, and don’t think I will be able to get all I want to do in vanilla, before TBC hits. I know I can choose if I want them to continue in vanilla or go on to TBC, and the set date will be shortly before TBC hit. But if I choose to stay, I play a bit, maybee get some rep, maybee a new PVP rank, some new gear or whatever, will that follow me if I choose to transfer to TBC later? Or will it be rolled back to the date just before release? Also will it be free to transfer my char to TBC at a later time or does it have to be at the first login after TBC hit to be free? Anyone have any info on this?
I’d like to have at least some of my chars stay in vanilla, but that doesn’t’ mean I don’t want them to transfer later, but it kinda ruins the point if I can’t take any gear and rep I earn after a certain date with me.
Absolutely not. You cannot transfer back to TBCC after going to Classic with your progress, and probably not at all. Notice the first line in the link below
With Burning Crusade Classic™ , players will be provided a choice of taking their characters beyond Azeroth and through the Dark Portal into Outland or staying in Azeroth—for all time.
A snapshot is taken just before the TBC Pre-patch and if you pay for a copy it will move back as it was on that snapshot date.
The only free transfer is to the Classic realms, you can pay to have your character copied to Classic and keep your character in TBC.
I know it sucks, but unfortunately expansions are released and they won’t stop for no one.
You can also pay to clone your toon to continue on a Era realm and also have your copy progress onto a TBC realm. Personally i’d like to see fresh TBC servers, like the one this toon joined when TBC was originally released all them years ago
As I said, the copy will be from one specific date and time, that will never change. And as I also said there will be no copy back to TBC realms from Classic Era realms. “FOR ALL TIME”
Sucks, so you have to make sure you do everything you want in classic before it changes. Not before TBC hits, but before the prepatch hit, wich is even worse for me.
There is the option for cloning, Blizzard recently sent surveys out trying to figure out how much someone would be prepared to be gauged for to clone the char. The prices in the survey ranged between $9.99 and $39.99 anything more than a months sub for a clone is, to me, blatant profiteering.
your character copy is an exact copy on the date that prepatch hits, any progress on your character later on will only be on the forever classic servers. (Although you could argue that most progress will be invalidated in tbc anyways)
Note: You MIGHT get to flag classic characters again for WOTLK but i assume you can only flag TBC chars then.
Nonetheless i think that eventually blizzard will allow forever classic characters to be transefered to tbc for a price anyways. But i don’t expect this feature to become available before phase 2
