WoW is an MMORPG game and as such involves some forms of character development. One of them are abilities. In vanilla, Your character would get new abilities (as in, actual usable abilities that were not present before) as he/she gained levels. With the addition of expansions, many of them introduced new abilities as a way of character development.
I am very curious about Your opinion on that:
Do You expect your characters to get new abilities with every new expansion?
Do You look forward to see new abilities for Your character?
If You answered Yes to any of the above, then: what new abilities would You like to see? Something enchancing combat utility? Out of combat utility (like slowfall/movement seed increase/portals etc)? Abilities adding immersion? Something else entirely?
Not particularly, as button bloat is a thing, maybe that my class gets a new one that might change our current builds or talent paths
If itâs interesting enough to both augment the playstyle I enjoy or switch it up with new effects or cool looking ideas, then absolutely, although Iâm a much bigger fan of swapping abilities then just getting more as button bloat is a big concern of mine seeing as feral already has a load of them for ungodly similar abilites.
So for feral lets say I wanted something new or a new playstyle that I would enjoy, Iâll make a connection to the hero talents as that is the character developement of the new expansion.
For the wildstalker playstyle I wouldâve loved some more prowl interactions, perhaps keep the bleed as itâs more of what feral players already enjoy, just mmake it alot more guaranteed to proc, like when you pounce out of stealth you guarantee it or something along those lines.
Maybe you get a mark like a hunter that you can place on a traget to âmark your preyâ like a natural predator, then you get advantages against said mark, maybe the bleed procs more or is stronger or the traget suffers additional things for certain abilities like they are slowed by fear when we use our stampeding roar or our bleeds upon expiring leave a pool of blood behind on the ground, and if we stand in it we are empowered. Idk something along natural predators wouldâve been cool.
Personally I think the âshaking up gameplayâ loop has been rather problematic, renewing things just for renewalâs sake seems rather silly. Iâd rather they look more critically at what works, and what does not for each class and spec, and has done so historically. And then attempt to create a well flowing gameplay experience, with the intention of having that as a permanent base.
From there on itâd be much easier I think to tackle dead talents, uninteresting aspects of a spec and such, and tweak specifically and only there to finetune and add some new zest regularly, instead of ripping out a spec, and creating an entirely new wheel, with very similar issues once again. Over and over.
From there on I could see how itâd be fun to add some new dynamics to already existing abilities, like Gilvion described. A deepening of understanding and knowledge, an exposure to different cultures and their take on it, spins like that would make sense from a story pov and potentially add depth and new mechanics.
But for me itâd start with the intention of creating a well functioning and fun to play spec that wonât fundamentally change. Some specs have sort of had that, and personally I enjoy their consistency.
As someone previous said, some classes have too many abilities like Death Knight which makes it difficult to play compared to other classes like BM Hunter or Warrior. I rather see developers make classes with fewer abilities but the abilities might be more useful like for instance Death and decay and Remoreseless Winter. These two abilities could merge with each other to make it easier and more fun to play.
Back then new spells were often a Rank 2 or Rank 3 of an existing spell. They all stayed in your spellbook but youâd likely only ever use the highest rank version and that would be on your Action Bar. I do remember times when lower ranked healing spells were used to manage Mana better but that was rare enough.
So if they do add in new spells or Abilities they likely should be replacing an existing one. So maybe Earthquake could be replaced by Hail Storm or something, does similar stuff in a similar way but maybe with better damage or more CC or something.
I expect them to shuffle them round and make me have to relearn the class, which I am getting kinda fed up with. Iâd prefer an account bound progression that gives something else.
