Character creation

Hello everyone.
I’m experiencing some weird problem. I’ve left my main on classic era and wanted to make a new char with the same name in TBC, rerolling. However, I can’t make a new char doe to the ability to clone. I cannot choose NOT to copy and make the name available again and I can’t delete since it has mail. How am I supposed to make a new char with the same name, when I can’t delete the possibility of a clone?

Empty your mailbox, then delete your char.

Doesn’t it cost money to clone the character?

Same problem. Yes, it does cost money. I heard something about one for free? But I have 2 characters with mail so…
I’m on hold with Blizzard live assistance for about 40m now (it said 10m average).
Edit. Also, my problem is the same, but with faction limitations instead of name, so not even an alter for me.

yea im in a same problem, was saving a 2 letter name on a lvl1 for bc and as a bank for belf, and they cloned it with mail. Deleted the mail/char on classic, made a lvl 1 toon with same name, but the other cloned one still there with a mail and 10 day remaining on it. So i guess we have to contact them and wait until they manually delete the mailbox

ps: just realized the last snapshot they had was 20 days ago so its a single full 30 day mail sitting there, so sad

Does anyone know what Blizzards stand is with deleting a char and its name?

On retail, the name will be reserved for some time, so you c an make a new char with that name, even the next day. But does this also apply to Vanilla or TBC realms?

My problem is very similar, I wanted to leave all of my Alliance characters in the Classic Era so I could roll a blood elf - and was unable to delete their clones in TBC because apparently most of them “have mail”.

Obviously I’m not going to pay for the cloning service four times only to delete four toons. Nor am I going to wait 20-30 days for the mail to expire. I contacted customer service, maybe you should too.

@Blasius: This was probably the best option at the moment, some things are currently a bit tricky. Good luck and in order to help others, it would be useful to hear how your case turned out. Thank you!

I definitely will - but the average waiting time for tickets is about 10 hours at the moment…

@Blasius: Thank you! Yes, there probably are queues in support, because there are other types of problems as well. A small group of people are not able to play at all, because their clients are malfunctioning, etc.

Idk if im lucky to get a response to this but let me quote it

"I am here to talk to you about the ticket you submitted regarding not being able to delete your character due to mails that it has.

Apologies for the delay in a reply, it’s very busy at the moment but we’re working hard on getting that back to normal as soon as possible

To clear that message the mailbox of a character needs to be completely empty before you can delete it. Mails that are open will still prevent the deletion…

For WoW Classic or Burning Crusade Classic clones that you don’t want to activate the way to do that is to wait for the mail to expire. That will happen automatically 30 days after the mail is received."

yep, gotta wait it out.
Sent another very kind responde hoping that some GM will actually wipe the mailbox manually otherwise i’ll have to wait a 20 and a 30 day expiration out to use my names or pay cloning for a not even 60 char that were nameholders for bc, lovely
ps:im still shocked that they did a mid april “last log-in” snap on a 34 and a 56 char when the mails would’ve been long expired by now

Thanks for sharing that quote. I really hope they’ll help us by clearing those clones’ mailboxes instead of making us wait.

I renewed my sub in May specifically to roll a blood elf in the pre-patch.

No worries, yea i hope too. They defenetly have the tool to do it, as it was done multiple times before with “mail-spam transfer block” for example when Soda tried to transfer a GM had to manually delete his mailbox while he was spamming the transfer to make it happen.
Its just a debate for the upper ones to be nice or leave this very small % there figure it out
themselves

Since you are at it, you could ask how long the name is reserved upon deleting a clone. Is it like on retail a few days or immediately, so that everyone can just take the name if he is faster.

Sure I can add it to it, but as far as i know the names are connected until they are cloned to one of the era. What i did, cloned the char to tbc, deleted on vanilla, and remade char there as a lvl 1, just in case

So I opened a ticket yesterday and asked them nicely if it was possible to wipe the mailboxes of my unwanted Alliance clones so I could delete them (to reroll Horde) and the answer I got was:

"Right now there are two options available

-pay to unlock the character so that you can access the mail and delete these items on your end."

A.k.a. pay 4x the cloning price in my case just to delete those characters… are you kidding me?!

“-wait 30 days for the mail to expire.”

Meaning miss the whole two weeks of the pre-patch, the portal events and opportunities to level new Horde characters with my friends on our realm. By the way my sub ends during the first week of June. Obviously I don’t really feel like extending it due to this experience and I’m not even sure if I want to touch an ActiBlizz product with a ten foot pole in the near future… or ever.
