(I Already posted this on my servers specific forums cause I got a bit confused where I was meant to post, but I guess I should have just posted here, so I’ll just copy and paste my previous post)
My character somehow gained a level (60-61) after a dungeon, even though I do not own Dragonflight which I think may be the cause of my problem.
After I gained this level my character became inactive and it said I needed to renew my subscription even though I already had one, I purchased another month game time to see if that would get rid of my character’s inactive status which didn’t work. I then changed my password which got rid of my inactive status but when I tried to log into the character it said it was locked.
I was just wondering if this is a known problem and if there is a solution?
Sounds like a bug caused you to gain exp when you shouldn’t. And because 61 is Dragonflight only level, your character is locked because you don’t own Dragonflight. I think CS wouldn’t be of much help because I don’t think it’s possible to get your character back to level 60. The only 2 options I can think of are either but Dragonflight, hopefully it will go on sale in the next few months or wait for the next expansion when the level cap will be increased.
You can’t even report the bug because you can’t login on the character.
Senior GM’s / Developers CAN roll a character back a level or two, but this is usually only done when the actions of a GM causes the character to level up while a GM is fixing something.
I guess if it is proven to be a bug, he would have legitimate claim to request that they roll his character back a level. But thats going to be hard to prove.
I only know of once when this was done. That was a GM’s error but, from memory, the devs couldn’t roll back and had to rebuild the character from the start … it took months. There may be an easier way now but I would doubt it.
This seems similar because it’s some sort of game error. Definitely make a bug report ingame asap with another character in case it’s a new bug which is going to happen to other people and also make a ticket. GMs aren’t going to be able to lower your level but they can see what can be done from their end.
To progress beyond level 60 with your own character or the dracthyr Evoker, purchase of Dragonflight is required. Any experience earned after level 60 will be banked (up to level 70) and awarded after Dragonflight is purchased.
Thank you, I did just end up buying dragonflight in the end which gave me access to my character again but I did hear that other people were having the same problem so I’m glad it’s being looked into.
i dunno if OPs affected toon was a dracthyr, but i made one during the last promo weekend for people to try out a dracthyr whatever, i created mine, however its stuck in my character list unable to enter the world post character creation with a message that reads as ‘buy expansion to unlock’.
if this is supposed to be a free weekend i should be able to play said dracthyr toon and level to 63 if i desire to no?
I have the same problem: Played some timewalking WotlK instances on thursday night and suddenly dinged level 61 with this character. After reading about the trial weekend I wanted to log back on that character but couldn’t. I don’t own DF and also have no intention to buy it for the time being.
I think now Blizzard should raise the level cap to 61 for accounts without Dragonflight to allow them to play their locked characters. Buying or not Dragonflight should be a personal decision not enforced to those who don’t want or can’t afford to buy.
The underlying issue has been resolved and should not happen again. If you were affected by this and can no longer access one (or more) of your characters as a result, please reach out to the Customer Support team for assistance.
Would creating a new character get around this bug now? I only gained a couple levels on a drakthyr. I would just like to try the game for a bit more than an hour before deciding if I want to invest. As it stands, I’ll be walking away again
