Character name not freeing up correctly after deletion (MoP Classic – Shek’zeer realm)

Hello,

I’d like to report a potential issue with the name reservation system on the Shek’zeer realm (Mists of Pandaria Classic).

After deleting a level 1 character, the name does not become available again, even after more than 30 days have passed. Other names tested under the same conditions on the same realm free up instantly, suggesting that this may not be working as intended.

The issue has been reproduced across multiple accounts and persists even after resetting the UI, disabling all addons, and re-logging.

Several Game Masters have confirmed that this behavior goes beyond normal name reservation rules and advised me to report it here for developer review.

Could the team please verify if there’s a stuck database entry or another system-level issue affecting name availability on this realm?

Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Hey Ovaks,

There shouldn’t be any name reservation for a level 1 character that has been deleted.

If you’re unable to create a new character with a specific name after deleting this character, it’s highly possible that someone else did.

Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to clarify a bit more: the name in question was used on a level 1 character that was deleted over a month ago on Shek’zeer (MoP Classic). However, the name has remained unavailable ever since.

To rule out normal behavior, we tested with multiple accounts — creating and deleting different level 1 characters with random names — and in all other cases, the names became immediately available again. Only this specific name seems to stay locked.

Several Game Masters confirmed through tickets that this goes beyond normal name reservation behavior and suggested reporting it as a possible technical issue.

I’ve already submitted an in-game bug report, but I wanted to share this here so the QA team can check if something deeper is happening with that name on this realm.

Thanks again for your time and attention.

It looks like you’re still using the name on a character on your account. I understand that you said that you did that to make sure that nobody else is taking the name, but if the issue is that you can’t take the name on another account (even after deleting it), then keeping that new character on your account is unnecessary.

If you tested other names, but only this one shows the error that it’s unavailable, it means that the system is working correctly, and that a character with this name must have been deleted in the past 30 days, and was Lv20+ (for Classic) or 30+ (for TWW).

I’m sorry if there’s been some miscommunication somewhere, however QA generally does not come to the CS forums. You can report a bug in-game, which you said you’ve done, so there isn’t much else to do after that.
