Character name

What do you think about using nickname as a character name. For example the nameless undead called Revenant. Does it fit to this universe?

Not really.
Revenant is a type of undead.
It would be like calling your human charater gnome.

Shinny knifes as “Jack the ripper”

I see Revenant as a word, not a name.

It is also perhaps not uncommon enough a word that I would like it as a nickname, but hey…

There are lore characters named Rend and Maim, so…

Several of my characters were created before I started roleplaying, and they have kind of stupid names.

In those cases, I try to conjure an explanation for the character name as a nickname

(which the character often strongly dislikes…),

and then I type a more normal name in an RP addon, and use the latter name when RPing.

It depends. I usually am more inclined to give my characters nicknames in a fashion similar to the Gandalf one, where his true name was probably Olorin, but people used to call him differently based on locations.

If you can find a reason for people calling you something else, then it’s good.

This character, for instance, is modeled to be a stage mage of sorts, and Macumbo it’s his stage name. He has a true name too tho, but no one including myself uses it.
