Right click on a character report name. There’s reason and hit send. If enough people report it then it’s acted upon.
I have no solid proof but if they use the same methods as other mass reporting systems in WoW - and the forums - then it’ll be labelled for a rename automatically. There’s been a few people complain about it on the forums.
Another anecdote, back in WoD or late MoP there was this person who had a character with a word for sexual assault. He joined the guild. now the word he used was on the banned list but he added accents to it to get around the filter.
I found that greatly inappropriate and those types of people really p me off. I looked at the guild roster and flew to where he was. I hovered over him and right click reported him. I added him to my character friends list to see if he’d be forced to name change. Weeks went by and no name change. he probably got bored.
There’s an apathy with bad behaviour in games that lets people get away with this.
I know how to report for inappropriate names. Done it before
I can’t comment on whether or not what you say about automated forced name changes is a thing … as it’s basically just rumour and heresay.
I’m just saying that if it’s true, then there should be a list of “rules” that then could easily be stuck on a web page somewhere. If it’s not true, then people should stop talking about it as if it were
I do agree with the apathy thing tho … and the only way to combat that is to not give up. Also you do have to consider that they no doubt have a LOT of names reported … it might take them weeks to get through them.
Perhaps they have an automated filter that has some specifics that will always flag names for a name change, and the rest go through to a GM - now that would make sense.
It’s the name of someone famous irl.
One of those things on that list of character names we weren’t allowed, that’s now disappeared
I think I read somewhere that “mature language” is just used as a catch-all for all names that aren’t allowed; and as the name Hawking includes “king”, and titles like that -king, duke, emperor, and so on- were at least once not allowed, it gets stopped.
I would say that is just rumour and not true. Why? Because name change is service you pay for. Having system that automatically flags you for name change with enough votes would have been discovered, confirmed and heavily misused for free name changes by long time ago if it would exist. Only thing that goes by voting (without gm effort) is the temporary silence thing ment for fighting spam/offensive talk. Bans, name changes and such are going trough GMs.
What i was trying to explain originally is, that if your name is not offensive it wont matter if some people maliciously report you, GM will check and make decision for name change. And that if your name, on the other hand, is mildly offensive, you might fly under radar for long time if you are liked and no one reports you, but if you are getting lot fo negative attention from people it is more likely that name will be reported and brought to attention of GMs.
@Radium: Pretty much this. If there were no human checks, people would just ask their friends and guild mates for reports every time they wanted a free name change.
