Although I really like the new character screen and the warband stuff (hopefully this will be expanded on with campfire customization options ), one thing I really do not like is that horrible, screechy, horror-style violin that plays after a while. The rest of the music is great, but if you lurk too long on the screen or while making a character you get a very out-of-place horror ensemble and it’s quite frankly horrific to listen to.
Before everyone says “just mute it” etc - yes there are obvious solutions, but I’m wondering why it’s even there? Horror music is fine in environments where it’s intended. By design it’s supposed to agitate you a bit and make you feel on edge which is great for setting an atmosphere in certain environments, but choosing what colour hair to put on my new goblin is NOT the intended environment surely?
It’s only a minor thing I guess and there are obviously work-arounds like muting the music, but it’s a shame to have to do that every time especially when the rest of the music is perfectly nice. It feels like it’s just really out of place and incredibly annoying…
The music goes according to the theme, in this case the edgy Xalatath, the spiders and the creepy depths of Azeroth. For me Legion music was more annoying or maybe I spent too much time on login screen xd
Don’t worry, they’re either ignorant or crazy themselves I do not believe for a second that anyone actively enjoys that particular music while sitting there thinking of a character name.
A lot of people seem to overlook the fact that the music itself is fine in the context of what it is made for, but for casually creating or selecting your character it is just unexpected and annoying all they comprehend from what we say is “ughhh you don’t like the music haw haw” which just isn’t the case.
Creepy spider place - great.
Spending ages creating a character and deciding a name etc - not great.
Imagine if they put it in the elevator at a workplace; people would complain like crazy. Context is everything. The rest of the music is great and even pleasant to listen to, but very specific atmospheric music designed to make you uncomfortable just does not fit in the mix on a character screen
Also to the guy that just replied - It’s not a phobia, it’s just not wanting screeching, uncomfortable repetitive violins in my ears at 2am when I’m trying to create a character.
Usually the menu theme is a medley of all themes in the current expansion.
In DF we had the Dragonflight theme and its corresponding zone themes. It felt adventurous, chaotic (listen carefully…sounds offbeat without really being offbeat), lighthearted which automatically made it perfect for “starting a new adventure”.
This expansion’s the main theme is more depressing as everything seems to go down the drain with Azeroth supposedly dieing to an external force that no one really understands yet. Together with mainly underground themes that fits to the medley-of-themes-pattern we had before but that music just doesn’t have that embarkation-spirit we got from DF (daa-daa-daa-daaaaah…da-da-daa-da-da-daa)
However the DF theme was special in it’s own way. All menu themes were somewhat heavy, focussing on war and battle somehow. Before DF there never was a theme that really captured the adventure-spirit as the DF theme did. So we’re moving from something “special” to “daily business” together with “contextually just not fitting”. I hope they do remix the menu theme.
It’s a void/scary-themed expansion with spiders. Did you people expect children fantasy music playing in the menu that should give you a sheltered feeling?
People are so easily impressed (negatively) these days in my opinion.
