I have recently opened a ticket with Blizzard that hasn’t been satisfactorily resolved and I don’t know what to do next.
I noticed going through my bank account today that Blizz have charged me twice per month for my sub for the past 24 months running. I checked and there’s only one active WoW sub over this time (only ever had one).
Looking into it, it seems as though the second charge started exactly 3 months after I bought Dragonflight. So I’ve been paying twice for the same account since that time.
I opened a ticket and they paused my account, said they will refund the last payment, and offered 90 days free gametime. I said you’ve charged me £240 more than I should have been paying for the past two years, I’d like to be refunded for that. And they said we can’t refund if it’s not in the past 14 days.
What should I do here? It’s obviously an internal mistake as you shouldn’t be charged twice for the same sub. I’d like this to be refunded what they overcharged me, I don’t that’s unreasonable. Any suggestions?
I can’t suggest anything to do, but I am going to suggest what NOT to do.
Do NOT be tempted to issue a section 75 chargeback against Blizzard, except as a very last resort, as their default reaction to Chargebacks, is to ban the account issuing the chargeback until you pay them the money you charged back, back.

Thanks. No, I wouldn’t do chargebacks and couldn’t do it anyway as the charges date back some two years.
Part of the problem seems to be that a new GM deals with every reply rather than the same person. Some state that the problem hasn’t occured, some that it has but they can’t do anything, and others act as though I’m trying to cancel my sub. It’s very frustrating.
Hey Shaggar,
While we won’t be able to discuss about your account on these forums, if you believe that you have been charged twice per month for some time, then the most likely explanation is that you have two active WoW accounts (possibly on different Battle.net accounts), or that someone is using your credit card (without your consent, or you forgot about it).
You can find the transactions of your account, on this page, if necessary: https://account.battle.net/transactions

Hi Yryadorne,
I’ve checked quite thoroughly and this doesn’t appear to be the case.
I had an active subscription and then purchased Dragonflight. Three months after the purchase date exactly (i.e., after 90 days free gametime), a new and second direct debit started coming out of my account every month. It appears as though the purchase instigated a second monthly subscription payment on the same account. I know this shouldn’t happen but it appears to have happened nonetheless.
Is there someone I can speak with that I can provide evidence of this to? Just one consistent GM to speak with would be helpful.
I can confirm that this is not a thing: if there are two payments, there are two subscriptions, on two different accounts.
If you’re sure that you don’t have a second Battle.net account, and have never shared your credit card information with anyone who may play WoW, then I would encourage you to contact us again so that a game master can make sure that your banking information is removed from that other account.
You can mention in your ticket that I’ve left a note on your account for more information. I’m afraid that I won’t be able to share more than that publicly.
I would also encourage you to contact your bank afterward.

Thanks for your guidance.
I’ve provided transaction IDs to the GMs, who have advised that they cannot tell me why these charges have taken place nor what account they’re associated with. This seems strange to me because presumably they would be able to tell what accounts are linked to my bank details, especially if they have the transaction IDs for these charges.
They’ve asked me to contact the bank to have them revoked, but it seems to me the bank will probably direct me back towards Blizzard, as presumably recovering the charges would involve Blizzard in some way. I’ll do as they suggest but it seems to me the onus lies with Blizzard to refund any charges rather than the bank.
I can’t believe that Blizzard can’t tell which WoW account those payments are associated with … in fact that is downright impossible. There should, at the very least, be the ability for them to confirm that one of them is linked to your current WoW account and, by process of elimination, therefore work out that the other one is not. They should also, therefore, be able to tell which WoW account is linked to the OTHER subscription. And as you’re paying for both, you have a right to know what that subscription is.
The only way that might not be straight forward is if they have some sort of error which has somehow linked your one WoW account to two different subscription - which again, they should be able to tell.
Going to your bank will not help. From the few times I’ve tried to claim charge backs, they’ve gone out of their way to drag their feet and then decline them.
As far as they’re concerned, the money has been going out of your account for an extended period of time without you raising it as an issue.
Blizzard are the ones who received that money, they have a duty of care to track when our payments are made and what they’re for. If they’re unable to do that, then there’s a far greater issue going on and an indication that perhaps their lax attitude to our data in-game extends (not unexpectedly) to our data outside of the game.
As an immediate “fix” I’d suggest cancelling any and all payments to Blizzard. Waiting it out until your sub expires, and then (assuming you want to), set up a new single subscription - ideally using a different payment method (to avoid any potential re-linking).
They can’t as it would be against GDPR.
