The Random Dungeon Finder (RDF) and the Looking for Group (LFG) tool can both have negative effects on the community aspect of the game, but there are some differences between them:
Impersonal experience: Both the RDF and LFG tool can make the game feel more like a solo experience, but the LFG tool may have a greater impact on this aspect since it allows players to find groups for any activity, not just dungeons.
Less incentive to build relationships: Both the RDF and LFG tool can reduce the incentive to build relationships with other players, but the LFG tool may have a greater impact since it allows players to quickly find groups for any activity without needing to rely on their guild or social network.
Less accountability: Both the RDF and LFG tool can reduce accountability for bad behavior or poor performance, but the LFG tool may have a greater impact since it allows players to easily leave groups mid-activity without needing to face the same group members again.
Lower difficulty: Both the RDF and LFG tool can make it easier for players to complete activities, but the RDF may have a greater impact on this aspect since it specifically groups players for dungeons and can sometimes match players with others who are overgeared for the content.
Negative impact on player behavior: Both the RDF and LFG tool can lead to negative player behavior, but the LFG tool may have a greater impact on this aspect since it allows players to find groups for any activity, including world quests, which can lead to players being disrespectful or uncooperative with others.
Overall, both the RDF and LFG tool can have negative effects on the social aspect of the game, but the LFG tool may have a greater impact since it allows players to find groups for any activity and can reduce accountability for bad behavior.
Exactly what I was saying when we found out there will be no RDF but LFG. LFG have more impact on every argument people had against RDF and yet no one saw it and my comments disregarded as im some …andy
I dont know about you guys, but asking a robot about social behaviours in two systems that are similar doesnt sound like a good idea.
Not to mention you left out how you asked the robot, which can greatly affect the answer you get.
Edit: also you never specified what negative effect is, how can you even post something like this without specifying what negative effect are.
For someone with social anxiety, having to talk to others will be a negative effect, while for someone that enjoy being social its a very positive effect.
This bots answer is completly irrelevant when it does not say anything about what negative impact the systems have compared to what
Ofc. I agree to a certain extent with you. Just to give a little more clarity on the matter, since it will be too long to post all.
I asked:
What are the negative effects of RDF in WotLK?
What are the negative effects of the Looking for Group tool in WotLK?
Compare the negative effects of the Looking for Group tool and RDF in WotLK.
Asking AI about social behaviour might not be a good idea, you’re right about that. What the AI does it scan the internet about topic X and filter information about the topic out of forum posts, Reddit, interviews with devs, Youtube comments etc. etc. and fabricates an answer to said question.
Just to be on record to say I do not value ChatGTP’s answer to be a definitive answer to what we should do in the future (i.o.w add RDF or not). I do value the outcome of ChatGTP as something of a resume of what has been posted on the forums.
The last couple of weeks I felt quite strongly that the arguments made to not add RDF just don’t make sense. From personal experience I don’t see an active and social community right now. I feel people just get a couple of emblems and move on. When I ask someone to join another HC or HC+ they leave without saying anything. If I ask if it’s ok if I add someone to my friend list they either not reply, say yes and never log on again or say no.
Same could be said for the argument of ‘muh immersion’. People flying or walking to dungeons makes the world more lively! Not if noone is gonna do it anyways cause the old world content is way out of their way or if a large portion of the community just ‘123’ from Dalaran/SW/Orgr.
TL;DR: This AI’s answer is by far not perfect and we should not follow it blindly. It’s just another insight on this issue. Do with it as you like.
As far as I understand, ChatGPT didnt make a poll. The bot simply gathered arguments, the quantity of those should not matter, right? I doubt that the bot was unable to find the arguments for LFG or against RDF.
I guess you might be right, however the answers the chatgtp gave is just both things are bad, because only unhappy players post.
Im just saying that the answer given by this AI are pointless, cause what is good or bad varies so much from player to player that you cant get a real answer by just mashing up answers around the internet into a statement
Its a extremely complicated question you put in to the chatgtp, simply cause there is too many variables in the equation to get a clear answer even for humans.
And a robot ai that works by gathering information from said humans without some form of criteria that the information come from humans with any form of expertise in the field will never be a reliable source
The internet is a massive pool of bad information, so until the ai is intellegent enough to filter out bad information i would never use it for anything but entertainment
It seems to have confused them somewhat, which may be caused by us players using LFG and RDF exchangeably until not too recently.
That said, the points it makes can be used as facets for discussion.
I also agree with your takeaway anyway.
The first point is funny. I’m not sure I care about hard personal experiences here, I like to randomly group with people who are doing the same activity.
The second point explains the first and it makes sense. Then again, I’m not sure about the point of building relationships in a game where people come and go. I was more social in the past but taking breaks or switching alts always got in the way. So I just consider myself a freelancer now.
The third point is actually backwards.
The fourth point is for me a big plus, well caught, at the same time it’s annoying to some.
The fifth is pretty much random, is why I think it’s interchanged. Or, people completely disagree and instead of being inconclusive, it created a chessboard putting black and white on it.
I added to my unsub message (2-3 months ago) that I don’t fancy smashing the Manual Dungeon Finder and being the hamster in the wheel. I’m just playing with random people anyway while leveling my many characters, really unhappy with my understanding of life at 80, so in the end, I named it MDF.
So be it your way, let’s compare global LFG chat (/4 by default) vs current LFG tool vs RDF that came in 3.3.0 aka ICC release patch.
/4. Seeing people writhing messages in global chat channel show how alive server is. Yes it get really spammed on megarealms and you need addons like LFG Bulletin board to filter it out, but you always feel you are in an MMO, even if you are catching up on low level alts and there are low activity in finding your dungeon you can still hope someone having alts would see the message on their main.
LFG tool. Basically takes over most LFG Bulletin board addon functions and reduces spam rate in /4, yet relies on it for finding missing roles, usually tank or healer or for custom activities (people are usually browsing only dungeons in LFG tool). If you disable /4, LFG tool can feel a bit automated and impersonal. However once group starts forming group leader usually politely ask if you would like to go to specific dungeon, if you have multiple are selected. Then there are discussions of whom group needs for buffs if there is a choise for certain roles if LFG tool list as well as asking friends and guild is still an option too.
RDF. Fully automated kills most significant part of /4 chat. People in group never communicate untill a wipe and they want to put the blame on someone and kick him. The most Impersonal of all options.
/4 same as LFG tool are somewhat equal here. Groups gathered via those means allow you to make occasional friendliest invites exchanges if players liked you as a player. Sure some are motivated only by personal interests, thus tanks and healers are added to friend list more often, however a good dps who never overpulls, does good damage without ripping aggro off, saves healer with CC if overpull does happen, etc. is always welcomed. People know that expanding their friend list will help them form groups faster next time with reliable people.
RDF is separate on this topic. The system is not only automated but cross realm too, so chances you can meet specific player again are minimal to none existent. Cross realm groups are not a thing too and registering RDF at the same time doesn’t guarantee that you end up matched together, even if you are friends via battle tag/real ID. This is a big barrier and it undermines the most basic friend circles forming, the step predecessing formation of a new casual guild core, that in term indemines reqruiting pool form normal guilds and so on…
/4 and LFG tool require you to specify rules before the run. Breaking them can not only result in those players adding you to their black lists, but also to realms most popular discords halls of shame that may result in even greater number of players blacklisting you if the see the proves.
RDF hasn’t got any window to wright down group forming conditions, so only general ones apply. This however doesn’t stop cross realm players not only from ninjaing, but also leaving without any excuses, or even griefing the group if they loose on loot rolls. All this, because such player knows that automated reporting system doesn’t work.
/4 & LFG tool are usually full of gatekeeping, players want as smooth ride as they can get. There are geared players who set entry barrier higher that average level of rewards from content they search group for. This disparity exist because of badge system. Otherwise geared players would ignore content at all making catch up gap even greater for alts and late to entry players.
RDF does good job at providing a good catch up opportunity via mixing up geared and ungeared players, offering badges for carries and those being carried badges and fast way to gear up for current tier preraid. However RDF can’t create balanced groups thus it relies on lowering difficulty of the content into oblivion as was the case with early Cataclysm heroics. When everyone starts anew in early expansion, there are no carries and RDF matchmaking doesn’t work. Manually gathered groups do harder content more efficient than group of lazy and impatient auto PUG rushers.
That would be the case if the tool was actually functional which it isn’t. It doesn’t automatically refresh while invites and everything around it lack any sort of actually useful informations. Hell when you’re invited you only ever get a name of whoever does that. In fact if you ever hope to form a group you’re forced to use /4 which basically still makes Bulletin Board superior solution.
