Choosing (main) class for SOD

Hi, I have played some SOD and need help with choosing a MAIN Class. Truth is that I would like to level several classes but with slow/1x exp rates and having a job I should better go for one main class. Have found some similar topics but dont know if that was for SOD or normal vanilla. I am looking for the following.

  1. no boring class. Dont want a class that uses only 1 or 2 spells. Played Warlock before but in Vanilla there were these debuff limits and in TBC destruction with crit/haste scaled much better. What is the debuff limit in SOD? And what class do you thing will require much skill by planing spell rotation and what class will end as a braindead single button spammer? As far memory serves me correct shadowpriest in TBC was the most fun to play.

  2. what classes will be in most demand? Like said I have to work and dont have too much time now. I wont be a progamer with BIS equipment. I want it quite easy to find a group.

  3. leveling and getting stuff for raids should also be easy. So NO Warrior. Classes that are not that gear depend and dont need that much consumables. As far I remember some classes became MUCH stronger by world buffs and flaks then other classes.

And bye the way I am going to play ally for nostalgia reasons. Of course nobody can tell what classes are fun/challenging to play or are at high demand when SOD will allow lvl 60 chars.

Eh… I mean it’s all vague and also who knows what will be meta in half a year from now, maybe what’s fun now will devolve in 1-2 buttons and what’s not will suddenly be a piano.

There is no debuff limit AFAIK (in before someone rushes in with “Akshually”, at least it seems debuff limit is not an issue in SoD, so far).

Warlocks are pretty decent, they are the strongest DPS caster for now and you can actually tank reasonably, at least in this phase.

As a whole - most casters got a spell or two slapped on. Mages/Locks are big winners there with new playstyles and Mage Arcane/Lock Fire suddenly becoming a thing. So if you want a caster that presses buttons (but not too many, it’s still classic) - those 2 are a good choice.

If you want more melee, then Feral Druids are biggest winners so far, especially for Alliance side. They suddenly have the most desirable buff in the game and coupled with a strong debuff too - everyone wants a feral in the party/raid now.

The rest are kinda meh. Shamans and Shadow Priests are dogsh… well healer Priests are fantastic. This may change later on, but I’m not a fortune teller. Warriors and Hunters are dime a dozen, both OP in their niches (Hunter niche being like Hunter weapons - almost everything). Spit in the middle of Stormwind and you hit 5 Hunters.

Paladins are kinda lukewarm, on the paper they got some great stuff, but the outcome is meh, unless healer as usual.

Sadly there are not many classes that press more than 2 buttons. I’d say probably warrior atm presses the most buttons ?

Feral druid, by far, or priest.

Leveling on every class right now is easy. Yes, some classes do it a bit faster than others, but its not like normal classic where you can say “leveling a warrior is hard”.

So as a conclusion : Probably feral druid would suit your craterias the most - fun/easy to level, especially if you get starsurge early on and level as boomkin. Very high demand especially on alliance because of WF. Doing decent DPS, but it doesn’t have 15 button rotation. You pretty much press 4 buttons at most in each encounter.

Leveling right now to 25 takes about 20 hours. You didn’t state how much time you have to play, but I suggest if you could invest around or more than 50 hours total untill feb. 8 when the next phase is coming out - then try at least 2 classes. You will have enough time to level them up and go into raid at least 1 or 2 resets. Don’t worry about not having the gear for the next phase or gold - you wont need them.

We have no idea what runes each class will get, and how it will affect its playstyle. For what we know - druids can get 2 more runes to press that actually makes Rip do dmg, and the all of a sudden you become a class that needs to track multiple dots and buffs (like in wotlk). Or hunters can be the same. OR we don’t get any of these runes, and all the classes remain with 2 buttons, after all its classic, if you want something hard maybe you will like retail better.

P.S. as Zerezas said above, there is currently no debuff limit.

Is that not the point people play classic ?

For easy classes.

On retri i use Crusader strike, Divine storm, Judgement, Exorcism and Refresh command after judgement.

If that helps your decision

Feral druids for wild strikes
