Chores are killing alts

Things like:-

  • Skip Maw intro
  • Improve Threads of Fate levelling - add more things to give it better variation, Torghast for example, get rid of all the horrendous fill the bar activities
  • Remove the linear requirement for storyline levelling so that people can choose the zone they want to level in, instead of having to do them in order
  • Allow alts to skip straight to this season’s renown level (40) and story providing they have a main that is up to date
  • Allow mains to buy tier/death’s advance rep giving items to send to alts
  • Allow max chars to send spare anima to alts

That’s a fair point. I guess it’s more like having the knowledge that you’re consciously underperforming because you don’t want to bother with optimizing yourself that makes me want to not play alts rather than the actual ability to clear a run. But that’s probably a me problem then.

I think the progression should be account wide on these temportary activities like everything for the covenant. The grind for anima is not interesting but the things you can get like the rares or mirror network and activities like that are enjoyable to do for when you feel like it. Conduits are nice but not when you need to regrind them on other chars, same with renown.

Indeed I agree here. But people need to learn it’s their strict insistence on perfectionism burdening them with chores not the game. The amount of stuff SL “forces” you to do on an ongoing weekly basis for Alts is actually very small in my opinion.
If one interprets every single crevice of power as “necessary” before they can start doing content, that’s up to them. I’d argue it’s a bad faith position because if it were true, such people whom are “so conscious of underperforming they can’t engage unless they’re doing it 100%” wouldn’t bother with Alts in the first place as they take time away from optimising one char, and they’d only play the “absolute best specs “ yet they don’t.

So clearly there are limits to their insistence on perfection, they just need to learn to recognise they can stop themselves, as they already do for other areas.

Personally, I won’t complain if stuff becomes very alt friendly and you can skip “everything “ a main has done. My main point is I don’t believe SL is alt unfriendly at current and I think people vastly over exaggerate how bad it is, when the problems they face are a result of their own gameplay habits.

Like, If I complain that it takes me too long to clean five glasses compared to everyone else because my cleaning method has me engaging in some pedantic fine-tooth details every clean, I surely must recognise it is me causing myself to go slowly in that situation because I insist on doing them all in that way, when arguably for them to be considered “clean” by the one asking me to clean them, I don’t need to go that far. Not a great analogy but hey.

I also think people need to recognise the difference being optimised as is and optimised as could be. When I play an alt I play them in the first manner, with as far as I have them, I do play optimally. I just don’t deny them play because hypothetically they could be better in some theoretical manner. I’m still investing all my energies as much as I can.
If one chases hypothetical best, then it begs all sorts of questions. For example why would one chase a hypothetical best as opposed to a “as is” best when they don’t have 8 hours a day to play? Because hypothetically doing such would give you the hypothetical advantage? Yet people don’t. They compromise.

This is the issue for me, many people set themselves very strict hypothetical standards they will never meet which are completely unneeded for them to do the content they do.
A hypothetical goal should be just that. A hypothetical goal. It shouldn’t be the”entry requirement” one holds themself to.

Long post stinking of superiority.

There is no point in discussing things with you. You just belittle anyone that dares to have a different opinion and generally come across as dismissive and superior.

You enjoy your own little world from your self appointing high horse, I’ll enjoy mine.

You obviously have quite a high tolerance xD

No its not. All of those things can be farmed solo.

MMORPG = Massive MULTIPLAYER Online Roleplaying Game.

It has absolutely nothing to do with a MMORPG.¨

Secondly its just extremely awfully designed for alts. Forcing people to do the same boring timegated content on their alts is just so bad that I cannot put it into words.

Normally I dont like Bellulars videos because I think he is often overly negative, but in this video I do think hes got some good points on what could make the game better:

there is nothing unfun about grind if grind is nicely designed.

problem is korthia is very badly designed boring place.

fun doesnt mean putting 0 effort into your toons and being able to instantly jump into +20 .

strange - i always see a ton of poeple around me in korthia. feels very mmorpg’ish

I quite enjoy it.

Can you give an example of an outdoor zone that you enjoyed doing on your alts in the past, and what was different in terms of design that made it superior to Korthia?

Strange. You say this:

in response to

and I say

and your response is that Korthia is packed with players? How does that make any sense?

Doing content you can do on your own is obviously not what makes an MMO.

Anyway this topic isnt about what defines an MMO and what doesnt.
This is about SL being extremely alt unfriendly.¨

Sure I think I know what you mean: We need to have things to do when we are not doing arenas, rbgs, m+ or raids.

But it shouldnt have to be so poorly designed. Why do we have to do the same covenant compaign we have already done on another character?

Why do I get resto druid conduits on my feral druid ?

Why does conduit energy exist? Just to make us suffer?

etc etc. Imo there is just so many things that is so awfully designed.

Umm, I’m agreeing with you and adding more examples.

Stupid reply stinking of ignorance.

I replied with normal replies.
I think you just don’t have any good retorts and thus resort to these kinds of dumb responses.

Well apparently you don’t enjoy it, because you’re here whining.

I actually watched it. Which is odd, because I’ve given up on Bellular for now.

Anyway, I give this video respect for presenting focused, relevant, and coherent suggestions for systems changes in 9.1. Dropped a mark for not listing them in text in the description/timestamps.

Nothing about it surprised me.

Nothing about it excited me.

Mostly, it hammered home to me just how much damage is being done to the game by artificial, extraneous, and unnecessary restrictions.

However, it didn’t excite me because nothing in a .05 patch is going to change the content or the characters.

It seems to me that only M+ runners are (more or less, within the usual bounds) satisfied with their content.

As for characters, I don’t even know what they’re doing any more. They’re just using old favourites as plot patches, while introducing no interesting new ones. Did you ever hear of the Eight Deadly Words?
I. Don’t. Care. What. Happens. To. These. People.
