Chromie time for WoW Classic Cataclysm

With the opening on ToGC, Wrath of the Lich King Classic had reached mid of it’s life span. About in less than a year from now on we will face no choise rather than going to Cataclysm. Since TBC and Wrath content is almost untouched in Cataclysm my question is how should Blizzars handle the old Classic world zones, instances, e.t.c.?

  • #ItBelongsToMuseum. When it is gone it is gone. The only place where it should be available Classic Era and Classic SoM2 or whatever will be in it’s place.

  • #Chromie time Classic. You should change between Cataclysm zones and Classic zones via special NPCs dialogues. Entrance to Classic instances would be available only from Classic zones and Cataclysm version from altered Cataclysm zones.

  • #consistency. You should level in SoM2 Classic Era, but be able to transfer to Cataclysm Classic, making world feeling more consistent without splitting audience that much, when everyone starts Chromie time hopping.

Era servers for all three Classics.

Because many people said that Cataclysm is bad only because they destroyed the old content (which is the purpose right ?), they won’t have no excuse with chromie.

I’m not sure why it should matter. Just look at the xp boost beggers who have been flooding the forums with their nonsense “I’ve leveled a billion alts”, “Nobody likes 1-60 content”, “1-60 is boring”. The general consensus seems to be that old azeroth sucks… I prefer old azeroth to cata, but not enough to care which one we get. Cata isn’t really classic anymore so whatever comes, comes. #allthechanges i guess…

I think this is quite good option for those who prefer the old Azeroth but still want to progress to new expansions for end game. Transfers should be available all year, not only at the end of the Season.

It matter because at least with that the old Classic players don’t have any excuse for Cataclysm.
And it remove one argument anti-cataclysm.

I think the new “SoM” realms should be Wrath, no wait, here me out.

They have a switch that you can press only once, you start in classic on the realm and can only do classic stuff until you press the switch that needs double, maybe even triple confirmation, then you get TBC until you press another switch for Wrath.

There is no trading between the expansions and the AH only shows stuff from the expansion you’re in and the ones before it. You cannot trade or mail items to anyone who isn’t in that expansion. For example, no Fel Iron Ore can be received by players who haven’t chosen TBC or Wrath.

So it’s basically Era realms with progression when you choose to.

You can of course choose Wrath from level one if you like but you cannot do dungeons/raids if you have an item from the next expansion equipped or in your bags, this includes mats.

I’m missing some stuff that no doubt people will point out but you get the basic idea.

Edit: You get the spec skills from the expansion you are in and when you change they change. And it will take a huge amount of work to set up.

will we…? how is cataclysm “classic”? that expansion marked the change of an era, along with all the old vanilla system that made them so beloved to the nostalgics.

Not sure what’s the point of having old and new zone versions? Most players will have WoTLK level characters and any freshmen will rush levels in pre-patch and use exp buff whenever it’s available. Nowadays meta is much faster and even more endgame focused.

Chromie would work against all those people who enjoy RDF, by diluting the playerbase across nearly double the amount of dungeons.

Well despite I started playing in May 2005 I see how someone can be nostalgic for Cataclysm, since they could had started playing back then. However I do not see how many new players would feel nostalgic about BfA or SL.

My question to people who don’t like the levelling zone changes: how long do you expect to stay in azeroth levelling up? You will have had like 5 years of vanilla azeroth by this time, wtf are you doing?

IDK, like raiding a lot with occasional breaks for something like SoM1 end, when they announced free transfers to Wrath.
Still haven’t finished all Forsaken zones, since I have only one lvl 70 troll mage and lvl 70 troll priest backup alts from the end of TBC if I deside to play Horde for some reason.

ALTS levelling - hav en’t trried all race/class combos yet - I simply love it! Do not ruin my world once again.

Classic era is right there for you.

I am not a big fan of Cata changes to Azeroth, it’s too memey and Marvel humor with would-be meta comedy. BUT, I am so sick of the disjointed, poorly thought out, go half way around the world to talk to the guy, quests at the end of the zone are red when you started it as green old Azeroth that I have a half mind to level some alts in Cata with actual fluent zones (and RDF) just for the sake of it, even if the quests and story are cringe.
Then again vanilla has it’s share of unbearable cringe like Linken and Lario with Muigi.

Only if you also mean Wrath Era.
I Like playing Draenei as well, And I like BC and Wrath zones. and I love old world levelling with its freedom of choice and non-linearity. I not like Quest hubs, and forces specs of Cata. I will never paly Cata and so hope for Wrath Era.

The only cringe I find in Wrath is new-added tries at pleasing all and sundry and thus pleasing no one.

The Classic zone are meant to be done with mixing of dungeon runs in between. If you didn’t do dungeons you had to grind a lot instead. Vanilla quests with their kill 12 zebras, 10 lions and 7 raptors to get hoofs, teeth and heads turns into grind fest, because apparently zebras don’t have hoofs, lions lack teeth and raptors walk around headless. All this to meet exp requirement that most likely were artificially extended. I liked SoM1 exp rate for quests and the fact that they used TBC prepatch exp cap for 60. You could just level solo on quests in HC mode taking 2 and a half zone to get to the next lvl bracket without visiting any dungeons at all (SoM1 had barely any players left, scattered across levels doing Iron Soul challenge). I don’t know how new HC worlds would handle the exp gap with 24h limit on dungeon spam, most likely we would have to kill a lot of boars, but it is always good to have an option. That’s why I am advocating for free transfers from HC to Wrath/Cata for ghosts of perished HC characters, not only to Era realms.

I been playing IronMan on Era for now almost two years. Leveling many toons because IronMan say: No Dungen, no potion, no stat gear, no buff, no group and of course no die.
I never did not have enough quests to do.
Only when I tried do Peaceful challenge - in addition to abovementioned No kills - is impossible, you run out of no-kill quests and places explore without get killed on sigth at level 7 or 8.

Because WoW as an MMO wasn’t designed this way. Addon authors just throw random restrictions on the fan to make HC player life more miserable, socially isolated and locked within themselves. That is anti MMO experience and using only white items or even no items beyond starting gear only makes leveling slower and limited, not harder in a sence a Mythic difficulty makes the game harder compared to normal mode because it is a new contend and all solutions are in process of being founded by theory crafters.

No the HC mode is a twist to standart levelung of making no silly mistakes and taking your time +knowledge of every dangerous mobs and quests that can overwhelm certain class of character. Classic Era HC has addon to cheese that experience, showing all zones of frequent players deaths on world map with statistics and other notes. Does SSF HC addon count if anyone using databases or other QoL addons? No it doesn’t. In fact as I mentioned in many other topics SSF HC addon was hacked and player death was erased from it’s log, so we can’t even trust any other data from it. That’s why we need official HC realms and totall reboot. SSF HC users can play by whatever silly, untested rules, they want to, like pacifist mode you mentioned, but the majority will come for Blizzard rules that remind of MMO we admire, not some ill vision of it, made by sociapath, who thinks killing boar for half a year is more challenging, than playing WoW Classic as usual, but without deaths.

Old Azeroth should be preserved in Classic Cataclysm, and also they should implement this in Retail, too, and finally fix the biggest mistake they made with the original Cataclysm.
Or keep Wrath Era realms. That will work too.
