Chromie timewalking questions

Hello,

I got a question as a new player. I finished the dragon flight and War within story and planning on doing the older stories.

  1. I saw there is Chromie who let you do the older stories, correct?

  2. I presume, if i want to do it in order, that I start with Outland? And Outland is the burning crusade expac?

  3. Can I do this from level 1 or do I need to level at least to level 10?

  4. Doing the older expacs, I presume I have to make sure I stop leveling before I hit level 60? Because I cant do the older dungeons with NPCs otherwise?

  5. Some tips to play which class in which expac? Not that I play a demon hunter, if it came out later…

Thank youso much in advance.

Regards,

I’ll do my best to answer your questions. I’d recommend, if you want to level multiple characters, to just choose one for each old expansion as it is so much xp anyway. I don’t know if you prefer horde or alliance.

  1. Correct.
  2. Yep!
  3. I’m not sure myself, I think you’re correct that it is from level 10. I usually do the starting zone on the original races, and with the allied ones you start at 10 so I haven’t checked it in ages
  4. You can gain xp in Chromie time till 71 now I think. If you leave Chromie time before that, mobs will drop in level. To what level depends on the expansion, I can’t tell you the exact details as all the scaling and squishes over the years have muddled it for me  But you can queue for the dungeons in Chromie time till 71 afaik, and if you want to see them solo you can leave that Chromie time, and then afterwards rejoin it.
  5. That is not the easiest question to answer. I think everyone might give different suggestions here. Personally I might go with blood elf paladin for TBC (with their starting zones) as it’s very atmospheric and blood elves had quite a bit of the limelight during that expansion.
For Wrath a DK. For Cata probably anything. MoP perhaps a pandaren and/or monk? WoD I’d go with a human or draenei something on Alliance side (garrison is very human oriented, and draenei get some attention) and an orc on Horde side, perhaps a shaman to embrace the Frostwolves. Legion a DH, but truthfully Legion is fun for all classes as you get the Class Halls. Well worth the playthrough  BfA could be anything really, both faction capitals and zones have their own flavour. Shadowlands I can’t comment as I skipped that.

I wish you a lot of fun! I hope more people will give you tips and their perspective

1: The stories are still there, what Chromie does is making old world stuff scale to level 70 (I assume, since TWW starts at 70). It does require a lvl 10-68 (the latter is an assumption on my part) character to use though, and you’ll be forcefully expelled from Chromie time once you reach lvl 70.
2: No - if you want to do it in order you’d have to start with Cataclysm, because Cataclysm contains “vanilla” areas - though keep in mind, as they have looked since Cataclysm.
3: Unless they’ve changed it, you need to be level 10 to make Chromie change the time line
4: Depends on the cut-of. If lvl 70 is the cut-of for Chromie time then you most likely won’t be able to change timelines somewhere around lvl 67/68 (based on how it worked during SL)
5: You can play whichever class/spec you like during Chromie time - if you need the “authenticy” then look at the character options in classic

Have fun
(and remember: The quests are still there for high level characters)

  1. Stories are all there and available to play even without Chromie. They just won’t scale in 10-70 range.
  2. Yes, I think now they are in proper order on the UI but it is also easy to find that information what order expansion are in.
  3. Chromie Timewalking is from level 10. Which is a minimal level you end your starting zone and allied race start with.
  4. Before you hit 70, which will happen probably half way through the expansion you are playing, unless you are avoiding side quests. Also Follower Dungeons with NPCs are only available for Dragonflight nad The War Within Dungeons.

There is indeed a bug right now with the dungeon finder that only gives level 61+ characters level 10 dungeons.

Some classes or races fit the theme for some expansions. But this is only cosmetic.
Wrath would fit Beath Knight.
Cata is more Shamany
MOP fits Monk quite well.
Legion would be Demon Hunter.

No gameplay implications though.

Maybe, and no less valid reason to pick a class than any other. I wouldn’t, since I don’t enjoy playing any of them, but I also don’t have the need to explore all parts of the game at a “level appropriate state”, but to each their own, and as long as they’re having fun that’s what a game should be about

Some answers have already been provided but I just thought I’d add in this.
