Blizzard doesn’t even need to remove the old items. Just add newer items to the existing vendors.
And with “Starter Gear” I mean items on the GS to start the expansion, not every season a new one.

I can kinda see the point with this. However they added the new starting zone where you get gear as you progress and a vendor seems unnecessary now. But on the other hand could we get one i each old starting zones since the quest only reward grey/white crap.
Auction house exists …
Various expansions have had starter gear for them. Off the top of my head, MoP had one in Dawn’s Blossom in the Jade Forest. For Cataclysm it used to be a vendor in Nordrassil. I don’t think they were removed but I’ve not checked recently. There is no standard though as far as I know.
There is the AH too as others have suggested. Crafted gear can be useful.
With Chromie time it would make more sense to locate those kinds of things centrally or let people buy a basic starter set.
Why would you even need that? While leveling, even without dungeons, you almost constantly change your gear, unless you use heirlooms.
It leaves plenty of gaps in your gear. You can reach 50 and still be left with white or grey items. I usually end up buying some gear from the AH but I’m a veteran who isn’t new and gold isn’t that big an issue for a starter set.
I can understand why people without heirlooms find it frustrating at times. Even with heirlooms you sometimes never replace some of the loomless slots.
Leveled 5 chars to 60 during SL without using any heirlooms. The only bad part was after hitting 60 before getting the ZM gear, so leveling gear is absolutely not a problem, especially since after 50 you can buy gear from AH.
So because you didn’t have any issues that is gospel? You do understand that your personal experience is not necessarily typical. There is a reason why survey data has to be done from a larger pool than one person.
To counter your ‘I’m okay so this issue doesn’t exist’ I haven’t levelled a single character to 50 without being stuck with grey items from the starter zones because neither questing nor dungeoning will guarantee you get loot for the slots you need. With or without heirlooms you still end up with slots that just don’t get items. Worse on a loomless char.
Regardless of your experience a set of basic green starter gear would be fine from a vendor, like we have in various expansions.
When MoP was the current expansion, I couldn’t even do dungeons while levelling on some alts because my item level was too low. The green items vendor in Dawn’s Blossom fixed that. I could queue up and carry on questing until my dungeon queue popped.
Eh?
I’ve got a warrior at 50 that I can’t even queue SL dungeons on, I’m just not playing it because I’m not about to spend absurd amounts of gold on gear from the AH(Last time I checked, they were 1000 gold each for some lvl 50 gear that gives you enough ilvl to be able to queue the dungeons) just to be able to queue SL dungeons. I’m also not going to do WQs to obtain such gear, because that’s boring as hell.
I remember there being one, thought it was in the Jinyu Village but I could be wrong.
I think having something like this could be good. I leveled a priest recently for the Heritage armour and did Legion for the Order Hall class mount too. When finished at level 50 had ilvl gear of around 50 too, some quest gear that was less than 50. This is quite low to go into Shadowlands with. I think having a green set of gear at 80 or 90 would feel better going into Shadowlands where the quest gear would still be upgrades.
That staring gear you are talking about most of the time were not created as starting gear for leveling through a expansion, it was starting green gear for the max level of the expansion.
MOP green gear was for level 90, which makes it a good starting gear for leveling through the next expansion, WOD, instead of MOP.
But anyway it would be an improvement if Blizzard made level 50 BFA green gear that could be used in Shadowlands leveling and level 60 Shadowlands green gear that could be used now for fresh level 60 and it also could be used for alts that reach level 60 on the next expansion.
The MoP gear was specifically for Mists, the Cata gear was specifically for Cataclysm. Not the next expansion.
Am I the only one who read the title as “… wouldn’t only sell to whites…”?
The MOP green gear that was available on Timeless Isle for level 90, or there was another green gear for level 85?
Yes the one I linked in this post
And mentioned in this response
I used both many times on alts to get them up to a gear standard that would allow me to queue for the expansion dungeons while levelling.
My mistake, there is another green set on Timeless Island that I believe is the same green gear given to instant level 90 characters during MOP/WOD.
Anyway, that means that starting gears has exits for every class on every expansion since MOP but it is only available for those characters that use the pay leveling option, and trial characters. It would be great if all those green sets for instant leveling character were added to a vendor in Stormwing/Orgrimmar, at least the ones for BFA and Shadowlands.
I think people generally aren’t aware of the vendors we do have, and yes at various times we have end game gearing via tokens or catch up systems that people can use to boost their ilvls going forward.
