Hi i have been trying for about 4 hours of endless loops to create a ticket which is impossible now adays. I ask my question and it gives me 3 options for answers. none work and the only other thing to do is press is “i still need help” which just ask me to do the same thing over again in an endless loop. No option for tickets or actual real support.
I wanted to know if i could claim the guild im in. All officers and guild master just went inactive but because only officers can claim then we are out of luck.
Is there a way to claim leadership of an inactive guild without being one of the inactive officers?
This is in wotlk classic btw
You do not need to be an officer. To dethrone an inactive GM:
- The GM must not have logged in for consecutive 90 days
- The person wishing to dethrone must be rank 2, 3 or 4
If an active guild member has a higher rank than you, you won’t be able to dethrone.
In WLK Classic, you dethrone by going to the Social Pane (O by default), click Guild, look for the Dethrone button (bottom left).
If you don’t meet the criteria Blizzard will not assist.

Hi there Bamsenjk,
It’s not always perfect, but hopefully the suggested answers should have included this support article:
Unfortunately if you’re unable to use the described in-game systems, there is no other way to claim the guild and so there is no need to make a ticket.
I hope you can still get the guild up and running in the end, or create a new one if needed!
i am the highest ranking active member. there is only officers, radi lead and guild master above me and they have been offline for over a year except raid lead who has been offline for 11 months. So i have the 4th highest rank in the guild
GM - year +
Raid leader - 11mpnths
Officers - year +
Full member - Me
Thats not relevant.
If you meet the criteria to dethrone the guild leader, you will be able to without a GM. If you don’t, no GM will override it to give you control.
Their job is more important to them than handing you the guild and getting fired for breaking policy.
The Dethrone option will be in the Guild Info tab, if its available to you.
So the guild is just dead because the officers and guild master is inactive?
Yes. You can allways make a new guild with the remaining members if you want.
Basically yes, but I am a bit of a cynic and think you actually want control so you can empty the bank. Otherwise, you would just make a new one.
Not necessarily. I’ve come across similar issues in the past, albeit in retail guilds, where people don’t really want to leave their current leaderless guild because it has all the achievements and history linked to it. It might also have people still in the guild who are inactive, but they’re hoping they’ll come back, or have some reason to want to keep their accounts there (perhaps someone died and they’re keeping their characters).
Plus, if their leadership has been inactive for that long, I don’t think they’d care if the remaining active players shared out the guild vault. Or transferred it to a new active guild.
We can differ in our opinions but the fact is as linked, they cannot get control of the guild and cannot be given it by Blizzard.
If the guild was that close maybe they can contact someone who can get control and give it to them.

Agreed. I just don’t assume the worst of people and then tell them that, without knowing a bit about them first
Just thought I’d mention that wanting to take over an inactive guild may have more potential reasons that just wanting to clean out the guild vault for personal gain.
It does look however, assuming my counting is correct, the link provided is giving correct information, and the OP is correct on their ranks … then they should still be able to take over the guild.
It says anyone up to and including the 4th rank … and they’re saying they’re 4th rank.
Edit … I’ve just checked … and they’re rank 5 and one of only 3 players in the guild.
With new people I hope for the best but plan for the worst until I get to know them.
I suspect the Guild Master created the ranks so that people cannot do what the OP is trying to do. I think they are probably rank 5 and that one of the ranks is hidden or unused. I don’t remember Wrath showing a number for the ranks, just names.
But that is a retail guild on Argent Dawn, which is the character they have posted on, as the OP says, it’s a Wrath guild.
Ahh … good point. Can we see Armories stuff for Wrath guilds?
No, I thought they might have brought them in with Wrath but they haven’t. Same goes for the armoury.
Maybe the new API stuff could give the information but I’ve never used it and we don’t have the character name or realm.

Yes indeed.
It’s intended that guild masters who plan ahead still have a way to maintain control of guilds, even through longer periods of inactivity.

A suggestion.
If you are not happy with the availability of your currently guild’s leadership why not work with the remaining guild members to create a new one?
