I guess we won’t convince each other. We are discussing a highly subjective topic afterall.
I don’t think that self healing in general is a problem, I think passive selfhealing is the big issue (DH / Destro) or spamable instant selfheal (like Death Strike) or PvE Items of course.
Abilities like Temp Shield or Crimson Vial are fine imo - sure, it’s RM and they are broken, but not due their “selfheal” I guess. ^^
Also is selfheal a core part of defense for most hybrids but most of the heals are hardcasted - so as long as it isn’t like Feral or Ret at BfA beginning (every few secs a 20%+ heal) it’s also fine.
yes,the passive heal (and everything that is passive* and automatic in general) for me always been an aberration
(*except the trashbuff/buff proc which are important even if less because no snapshoting)
I hope warrior gets more than just shattering throw.
don’t get me wrong, shattering throw is a spell that most warriors have wanted back for ages, but as a 5 minute CD niche ability it won’t help make the rotation anymore fluid or interesting
Self healing is completely over the top. Abilities like Deathstrike etc aren’t so bad because the DK needs a target in melee range in order to heal. Temp shield also fine because it only heals if your opponent doesn’t dispell it/decides to just keep attack you anyway.
The problem occurs with hard cast healing or heals such as crimson vial that don’t require any interaction with other players in order to heal. DPS don’t use Mana for offensive abilities anymore so there Mana pool is exclusively for healing abilities. As unbalanced as classic is it has really made me appreciate the resource management we used to have.
Hmm? So you are saying a 30 sec cd heal with barely any selfheal potential or a hardcasted spell that heals for like 7% max hp and can be interrupted are more an issue than Deathstrike which is instant, spamable and heals for a lot more (if used correctly) just because the DK maybe needs to use grip before?

Dunno when you played the game last time, but personally I have seen quiet a lot dks who were unkillable until deep dampening, but never seen a feral/shadow/… haven’t died because they were hardcasting heals…!
Dh/dk are like the worst offenders when it comes to dps self healing. Add in the peeling potential and damage on top of it and it’s among the least fun comps to meet today.

A 30 second cd HoT on the face of it seems pretty bad. But when you give that to a class that if played right has the potential to reset a fight whenever it wants to, then you’ve got a problem.
Hard casts healed far more than 7% when I last played. Last I payed attention to retail was Feb and shadow priest had no issue pumping out 40-50k crit heals with that azerite trait I can’t remember the name of.
Deathstrike heals a lot if you just sit in a DKs face. Any class with a shred of mobility should be able to limit how effectively a DK can use deathstrike.
I see, so rogue is actually super tanky and when they died at awc they were basically just played bad. But the DKs spaming DS have proven insane next level skill. Sorry mister, I really tried but can’t take you serious. ![]()
Depends on the class (the healing spell), but usually they aren’t. Longer casttimes give more hp obviously, but on my WW in 440 gear I heal for around 21k while having 350k hp. That’s 6% of the hp pool (18% versa). On lower ilvl the heals are better (the base scaling is pretty high, but scales less with improving ilvl).
Edit: Tested it on boomy with 414 ilvl → 21.5k / 238k. That’s ~9% of the hp pool therefor the boomy is oom after 5 casts.
A shadow? 40-50k crit heals? Never seen that tbh, but Feb is already 9 month ago and I had a break at that time…
With chains of ice, range stun, grip and team support (there are 2 other mates who can support you), it isn’t that hard to generate a lot of uptime. So no, there is bascially no way to outrange a dk for a solid amount of time (except in 2s maybe, if you are a frost mage - but noone talks about 2s).

Deathstrike healing 65-70k is fine… as we lose a bit of damage to become almost immortal.
death strike was never a problem before warlocks started hitting for 200k with 1 second casts.
Deathstrike in its current state promotes bad play as it heals way too much. It heals way more than hybrid casted heals it’s just dumb
That’s because some classes damage is ridiculously high and dk takes way more damage than it is supposed to. In MoP dk didn’t heal a lot but it was still one of the tankiest classes (as it’s supposed to be).
If death strike was nerfed right now and everything else stayed the same, you’d have absolutely no chance to win a game anymore because you don’t really have any other ways to avoid (or compensate for) these 200K chaos bolts.
Also they nerfed DK damage recently which was completely unnecessary since the problem with dk was only the self heal.
