Class games?

Okay, I might be the only one that feels this way, which is fine. I just wanted to throw this out here, and see what you guys thought, and maybe have a nice conversation about it. This is not(!) an attempt to say the game neccesarrily needs this… Just a fun hypothetical that I thought of.

For me sometimes, the classes don’t feel like actual “classes”… I feel their stories are just blended in a big “Champion of Azeroth!”, and sometimes I just feel like the same class just different coloured spells, whereas when you read / see videos about lore, the characters are so unique, their abilities are highlighted as the power of the class. So I thought, it could be fun, to try and give that “feeling” back in a fun way (imo). I do realize some of the reason why, may be because thats gaming nowdays, we try to push rating, score, gear etc.

But, what if they made a fun “gimmick” to the classes like the order hall… A small zone / instance for all classes to go to, and compete. It could be similar to the Brawlers Guild, you enter and are zoned in.

Examples:

Warriors:
You can either speak to an NPC and be qued into either a PVP or PVE mode. In the PVP mode, you are thrown into a gladiator ring against another warrior, 1v1 battle to death. In PVE mode you are facing a mob that gets harder depending on your rank.
Then a scoring system could be put into place, the higher you climb the more score, and at the end you are rewarded with cosmetic rewards. This could be a roman gladiator appearence for warriors, something that if you are able to get it, makes you feel like a “warrior”, this would also urge players to play the respective bracket outside of this, as more gear = better chance of completion.

For hunters it could be a “minigame” where you have to shoot arrows towards a target, and at first your crossair is all over the place, but as you use your bow/gun in normal content you passively gain a stat “steady” that has no effect of outside content, but will make your crossair more steady in that instanced hunter trial… And at the end, they get a quill that shoots arrows that glow or has fire… Maybe even add small leaderboards with the people that has the highest score etc.

I just think these small things might make you feel like the class and it could be a seasonal thing or even a expansion related thing… For me it would just be cool to feel like a “trained archer” rather than me just switching character and suddenly I am “Champion of Azeroth”.

What do you guys think? I am aware not everyone will be happy or satisfied, but lets try to brainstorm ideas instead of just going “Nah, stupid idea!”, maybe if you feel opposite of me, your perspective will help me change my view ^^

It sounds interesting, a sort of mage tower idea but for both PvP and PvE.

I loved class quests and class halls, I think we should get a new questline every expansion that also has updates with patches that could then reward a cosmetic class themed set. There’s no need to change the class hall location just a portal there in the new major city if that.

Your idea could then give recolours or other cosmetics. I say this because not all of us were able to do the mage tower and to have that kind of lock again can be disheartening. Different levels of difficulty awarding similar means everyone can enjoy it.

Yeah exactly! Every PVP version doesn’t have to be duel based, for the hunter example it could even be against another player, so whoever gets the best score wins and the PVE version could be a combination of hunter spells, like you having to use camo to hide, then use flare and different traps to get out the mob and lastly tame it and you are on a timer, before the mob runs away… Stuff like that, that makes you “feel” like a hunter ^^

This would be totally fine! We already have the class halls, so why not! I just meant it to not make it sound like I wanted a completely new zone with new graphics etc… For me it could be just as simple as the Brawlers Guild… But your idea is super cool, that also keeps the Class Halls relevant going forward!

Yes! I don’t know how fond I am of time capping rewards, exactly for the reason that you mentioned, it then ends up stressing people and “forcing” them rather than them doing it to enjoy that little “side game”

Was a great dead but was just dropped post legion. They should reuse them in future expansions. For example midnight returns to quelthalas we should be able to use lights hope again as it is literally just to the south

Thats why vanilla was extremely good in this regard. Classes felt unique
People complained about balance but there was a balance in the way that every class and spec had a counter. There wasnt such a thing as a meta, sure…most PvP players prefered frost mage rogue and priest but they also had counters
Now,as you said, whats the difference between class X Y Z,when they can all do the same stuff under different names?
WoW really lost its class fantasy,I play ele shaman since forever because that feels good to me and never meta slaved ,but now and ele shaman feels like a fire mage…
Im sad that blizz is listening to these streamers asking for balance
The perfect way they had it in vanilla, not every class was equally powerful but EVERY class had its counter

I think however, that relates more to what I mentioned too. Thats just mostly gaming these days… I don’t feel like, a game with multiple seasons has that “unique” player history, because everything is tied behind another factor (pvp rating, rio, cutting edge achievements etc.)…

Vanilla had that, because there was no previous version, every class had class quests to give them stuff that made them unique. Warlocks were riding on a demonic mount, warriors were swinging a powerful axe, all those small things… But in todays game, those side quests will be done in a few hours and then everyone is running around looking the same again.

But I think making something class relevant again, and maintaining it could be nice! For shamans, it could be like a challenge where you have to use different totems in different aspects, and mobs will spawn with 100% immunity to all schools except one, that forces you to realize “okay, now I use lava surge”, “Now I have to use frost schok”

Something that makes you feel like your class and not just another caster with different visuals and at the end, you are rewarded with something cool ^^
