Class imbalance seems bigger than last patch

Looking at both max and real class simulations, it seems to me that class imbalance is a lot bigger than in the previous patch and maybe bigger than ever (just comparing to the numbers in my memory).

In 8.3 it seems that the best spec will do 26% more damage than the last one (on 1 target) if movement if minimal or not needed. If we take tactics into consideration a BM hunter will deal 28% more damage than a fire mage.

Multitarget seems even worse as frost DKs will deal 32% more damage than a paladin or outlaw rogue (on average of course).

I remember that thing were more balanced in 8.2, but I have to confess I only looked at simulations in BfA. Were thing always this unbalance or this is a new low?

Dont speak about my spec ever again if you value your ears~ elf.

Mind if I steal that meme?
My Fury Warrior and Frost DK guildmates are always arguing which one of them has a more complicated rotation.

Eternal Palace - 95% percentile

Pretty well balanced all things considered.

This is a bit strange, as in the last statistics I’ve seen about EP, arcane mages were the dead bottom.

If you want to argue with the logs, feel free

in all fairness it would be better to look at the boss only numbers, where it gets a bit less even (looks at ww monk)

Sadly every place I got my info from is already updated to 8.3, so I cannot find the old graphs

But there’s close to no logs on 8.3, how would you even get this data :open_mouth:

Dhs with their simple and effecient rotation: we exist.
This thread: why do I exist thought?
Blizzard: what is balance?

Of course fights vary, amount of movement, add fight vs single target fight, how much it favours different classes etc etc.

Just for you

Arcane mage got 1 or 2 buffs during the patch.
Also after such a long time you get so used to mechanics, and how to deal with them in a more efficient way.
That’s why you can always watch BM hunters traveling downwards in dps charts after a few weeks.

This is what classes can actually do on various bosses, by players who can play well.

It is recorded damage from players doing the fights. The 95th percentile is just those who have mastered their classes and can play.

I’ve noticed a pattern. Unholy and Windwalker are almost always among the worst specs.

Shadowpriest looking hella strong. But for Orgozoa as an example if you want to get 95% you have to pad on adds like a madman doing alot of unnecessary dmg. Singletarget is actually king on that fight as long as you have a few dps that can cleave. Same goes for Zaqul, even though I would argue the padding is more important on that fight. And on Court Shadowpriest is just busted.

On Aszhara shadow is also strong but its prolly in phase 1 (the easy phase) with alot of spread cleave that they really shine.

Due to how well they performed in 8.2 they are getting some changes

  • Priest
    • Discipline
      • Contrition’s (Talent) base healing reduced by 25%.
      • Contrition’s healing is now correctly affected by Mastery.
        • Developers’ note: In the aggregate this talent gains value, due to the increase in Penance healing, reduction to Atonement healing, and Mastery bug fix.
      • Penance healing increased by 15%.
      • Schism now increases damage done from Priest spells and abilities only.
        • Developers’ note: This change is intended to make Schism consistent with other similar class cooldowns.
      • Shadow Word: Pain damage reduced by 9%.
      • Purge the Wicked damage reduced by 10%.
      • Power Word: Solace (Talent) damage reduced 10%.
      • Atonement healing reduced to 50% (from 55%).
      • Mastery: Grace effectiveness increased by 12%.
        • Developers’ notes: Discipline’s ability to contribute both damage and healing is slightly too high for what one character can bring to a group composition. At the same time, we’re making their Mastery stat slightly more attractive.
    • Shadow
      • Chorus of Insanity critical strike bonus reduced by 25%.
      • Auspicious Spirits damage bonus reduced to 25% (was 50%).
      • Spiteful Apparitions (Azerite Trait) now deals the correct amount of damage if the Shadow Priest has Auspicious Spirits talented.
        • Developers’ notes: The multiplicative interaction between Auspicious Spirits, Spiteful Apparitions, and Chorus of Insanity has specifically been a big part of Shadow’s damage scaling to get out of control at high target counts. This change will keep their damage output in line with its original intention.
      • Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word: Pain damage reduced by 8%.
