Going to try out the game until pre patch.
But i’m not sure what to play our if jedi sentinel or shadow.
I really like the battlemage feel, I get all jedi are basically battlemages, but I want that kind of shaman feel.
Out of those two which one has that feel?
I playing SWToR since i got a beta invite but it was some months i actually going inside (log in) to play at the moment because i have so many games i play atm, so i will try to answer:
Jedi Shadow if i remember is more a assassin class. my main is Empire opposite of Jedi Shadow. but i think they have a healer spec.
Sentinel if i remember right is more tank class with two dps options.
But as i stated above i have been away from in-game for a time so i don’t remeber all specs in my head atm. 
I think you probably want Jedi Sage, which is one of the two consular specialisations - it’s basically the Light Side version of the Sith Sorcerer, with the lightning-flinging reskinned to be throwing boulders or causing earthquakes.
I tried them all out on tyhon and I got to say I was surprised how shadow kinetic combat had that battlemage feel, and I checked online and see they get a earth shield like ability. Looks awesome.
