Classes to level up

Hello everyone.

I have been away from TBC, which i’m playing for the first time with Classic, for a while.

I was wondering which class(es) could deliver a faster leveling experience and if possible still be good in dps at the end game?

Hunter, Mage, Warlock are all fast levelers and among the top dps. Mage is superior of course if you’re willing to bore yourself to death and level by aoe-ing.
Warrior is a top dps-er but is slower.

Unless you’re gonna level to 70 in like 2 weeks and quickly jump into end game, I wouldn’t worry too much about what the end game dps is like because in about 2 months we’re gonna get the LK pre-patch, that will invalidate how things work right now.

Not anymore. Thank you Blizzturd :+1:

Oh stop crying that you can’t exploit anymore.
You do realize that only applies to mobs INSIDE dungeons right? You can still aoe level just fine outdoors.

Yeah I do, it’s gonna be so nice AOEing with 50 mages on the same non-instanced spot!
I am gonna play DK or Fury Warr anyway

Hello Necromon and thank you for reaching out.
Is there a website where i can check information for classes, which ones are good to level up the top dps etc?

I know you didn’t ask me, but this is what I’ve been using to compare…

The following link is a quite “descent” representation from DPS listing each raid tier.
https://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=438483
Bear in mind this is from a Private server that follows (to my knownledge) alot of the “original” Wotlk. The current version of wotlk may differ depending what else they plan on changing.

Maybe Necromon has a more up to date or more accurate list, I would be intrested in this aswell.

Pick a class you enjoy playing so you don’t go away next time ;). Don’t forget there will be a 50% xp increase. All honest advise is play what you like and enjoy doing.

But ye wlock mage and hunter are good dps and levelers. Wlock and hunter more enjoyable imo. Druid is also nice for leveling and you can fill 3 rolls if you want which are all fun, fun example: it’s gonna be hard competing with a boomie for AoE dps

I think the link posted above is a good start, however keep a few things in mind:

  • Classic LK meta will likely be a little different than that of private servers as the player pool and talent is much larger and more open to try things, on most private servers if you didn’t play the meta from 15 years ago, you were crucified.

  • All classes in LK are viable (granted not all specs), so the best decision is really to pick what you would enjoy without much thought to who is the absolute highest dps.

I thank you all that have replied to this, i also feel quite happy to see people telling to play whatever i enjoy, i love WoW especially the Classic version since it was re-released, i never played Vanilla, TBC or WOTLK and now i’m looking forward to Wrath and i prefer Classic than retail.

I wouldn’t mind at all if Blizzard would stop Classic at Wrath since that was the classic world or how i was before the Shattering , maybe Blizzard will also go for Cataclysm who knows?

I keep seeing people mentioning changes for Wrath what’s that about? Is Blizzard getting slammed at already?

There are some planned here and there, none that make or break the game, but here the ones that are currently on fire:

  • Random Dungeon Finder (that was added halfway into LK) will not be added at all
  • Naxx will be buffed a little (it was a joke at release, probably the easiest raid ever)
  • Recently some posts were made that blizzard’s quest helper will not be in (but they did comment and say that it will - at least eventually). Whether it is added or not is irrelevant as there are addons that do the same thing (and do it better too)

Special Note: Some people are bent on RDF exclusion or inclusion mean everything to them and the main reason that they will play / not play the game (obviously a super exaggeration lol)

Oh yeah… They deff are…

Don’t forget the change of dungeon exp (fair) and the change on Instanced NPC interractions on Frost Mage’s Blizzard kiting abilities. This change is “too battle boosters” but they are leaving Paladins unchanged.

Which in my opinion are the same class bias decisions the Retail team makes. And a dev team should never make class bias decisions.

True, I am in the Pro-RDF group.
Simply for the reasoning they start at 3.3.5 and RDF + ICC was added in 3.3.0.
I wouldn’t mind them implementing RDF in the ICC patch, but excluding it completely is nonesense. But I won’t start ranting about this in this thread.

Maybe, maybe not…
I personally will start playing wotlk on the side instead of my main game because I am sceptical about possible future changes that would be an even bigger deal.
I also am hesitant to even play (we’ll see) because off all the GDKP and Bot spam.

As i have said before i never played Vanilla back in 2004 i think that’s a big part of why i’m enjoying it so much at the moment and TBC and in the future with Wrath, since i only started playing at Pandaria, so these are 3 big pieces of content that i never played.
Honestly those changes like the Dungeon or Raid finder, well it’s just indifferent to me if it’s in the game or not, so far all the dungeons i have joined i have done so by interacting with people in the game chat, the quest helper…i don’t know why people make a big deal out of that one since there are addons that so many in the community love to use and the Naxx raid buff i guess that’s a double edge sword, on one hand you have the ones that always complain about the game being easy or others that always moan about being super hard because Blizzard decided to buff things up a bit to offer a bit more of a challenge.

About the GDKP and bots i consider that a concern and a pressing one at that, i think Blizzard should try to address that but how i have no idea. In my view this GDKP/bot issue is much more important and urgent than any of those so called changes like Raid Finder and so on.

What i come to conclude over the years especially with a game like World of Warcraft is that no matter what change Blizzard implements to it good or bad it always gets slammed by many players of this community, some people here look like that little kid to which you offer a choice of several lollipops with different flavors but the kid isn’t happy with any.
