Classic Era or WOTKL?

Stepping away from Retail for now and maybe indefinitely. I’d rather not dive into the reasons, but let’s just say it’s because of how healing has been treated in DF.

Which is getting more attention lately: Classic Era or WOTKL? Hardcore isn’t my thing; I’ll likely hit a wall around level 20. I’m more into endgame content and the communities around it. Also, not a fan of GDKPS/boosters.

For someone completely new to classic, would you suggest Era or WOTKL?

Thanks for your input!

They are completely different games right now. It is impossible to tell without knowing your preferences. ERA will be here forever; it is in its last phase, but maybe a fresh server will come (ERA will stay). The world is alive. WOTLK has only a monofaction PVP server, so there is no world action, but it is still progressing. And now there is a buff for faster leveling, so more people will be leveling their alts. But there is a high chance it will move to CATA next year. ERA is more of an RPG game with a world and everything, while WOTLK is for raiding and playing in instances. has a very alive raiding scene.

Like the dude above say. Very hard to tell. I as a person would never play era after trying the classic 60 time from MC to AQ40. The game wasnt for me.

I am waiting for the wotlk ERA realms, with clusters and with both faction population.
I would like to play it for years. It also suits me perfectly if we get it together with all the innovations, as long as the world is not empty.

Might be neither.
Era is very focused on leveling and even endgame players occasionally do lower level content for weird items that will later help them in raids, farming rep or whatever.
Wrath is pretty much endgame only, but GDKP reigns supreme.

GDKP is more lika a boost, thanks to the pumper/buyer stuff.
The first versions were really “DKP”-like, but nowadays it doesn’t look like it.
When they don’t even take you, if you don’t need half the loot table, they ask you in advance how much gold you have, etc. In the old fashioned gdkp you could go and bid on the stuff, if you didn’t win you at least got gold at the end, but now they usually only bring friends and guildies as the pumpers, and the buyer barely gets a small change.
I dont like this booster/boosted mentality, gdkp is a good idea but not like this, everyone should work for the given boss kill, not just go for the loot.

But what can be done, this is the 2023 community, they don’t even want to play, they just want to afk in Dalaran in full boosted gear, as if anyone cares.

I would say woltk. It still has that classic vibe, but it’s a bit more modern and I personally find it a bit more fun. But both woltk and vanilla are very very different from DF.

If you want harder longer leveling - go vanilla
If you want a bit harder raids/dungeons than vanilla - go woltk.

If we don’t get it, there is a private server, which is quite good and many people play on it, witch also not 100% perfect but unfortunately it is better than the current wotlk classic, there is population in both factions, and the punishments are handed out on a daily basis, as everyone can see them publicly in general chat. They even hand out punishment for ninja loot.
I rather play there when I have active subscription…
I don’t have huge expectations in terms of classic WOTLK, they would only bring the same level as before… regulations should be followed, cheaters should be permanently banned, after that, cheaters would start thinking about whether it is worth using the BOT programs.

And yes of course PVP servers should have PVP…
