(Classic) Finding my place & role in endgame content

Fellow Azerothians,

playing Paladin, I have so far loved to tank dungeons. I use trinkets, I use Grenades for additional aggro and pulling, I use a macro that reminds ppl of giving me a few seconds to build threat.

Having reached 60, it becomes harder to tank as a Paladin. Having no taunt means that well geared and blood-thirsty mages and hunters grab aggro in an instant. Usually, it works out, but its hectic and a bit chaotic.

When everyone respects the slow ad steady pally tank train, uses CC and their brains, it works wonderfully.

I know I can always switch to heal, it is an option I will fall back to if anything else doesnt work, but I want to give Prot Tank and Ret DPS a chance.

Now, my questions:

  • Do you have tips for me to be a viable tank or off-tank, perhaps even in raiding content?
  • How do I make Ret DPS viable? I do bring utility, I can off-tank larger groups but ofc want to try to make a legitimate contribution to the damage meters.

And YES, I am looking forward to having a slightly easier time in TBC, but for now, its Classic

Thank you!
