SOD with all of its problems and disballance is still much better then original classic.
For sure some people will go fresh classic - someone who plays sod, someone who plays era or someone who hates sod and was waiting for fresh.
And yet the majority will stay at SoD. Its just more relaxing and fun version of wow classic, where you can play tank rogue or ballance moonkin, not oomkin.
I assume people miss TBC more so the majority just will leveling up their main until 60 and then park it in “tbc waiting room”.
I never raid log and never will, what other players do is their business.
SoD proved how to keep 60 content more entertaining than era, however any version needs a refresh after 1-2 years, or I’m not interested.
Nobody forces me to play era for 5 years, I can take breaks, make my own refresh to restart my journey or play HC or SoD instead.
Next week fresh with TBC in mind is a game changer.
Do this every 1-2 years with any classic version similar to ARPG seasons and I’m totally happy with current state of classic. I don’t even care if I lose all chars. Fresh is fresh.
classic fresh is gonna have less players than the least populated SOD server during phase 3.
literally do not worry, it will be fine.
the fact that somehow, some people are deluded enough to think vanilla fresh is in any way in any sort of demand is mindboggling.
mate, they’re gonna get on that fresh server (note; singular) and realize after week 1, that there’s like 200 people on their entire server, and more than 60% of them all are all warriors, mages or rogues.
it will literally be so dead that those said warriors and rogues will not have windfury or pala auras, because no shaman/paladin player worth their salt is ever going back to vanilla wow after having played those classes in SOD, where most of their class issues are fixed (pls add 2h shaman glove rune btw).
It baffles me that the SoD development team say there is no content after P7 and people think they are just going to change their minds. They won’t. Classic is easier to manage for them and more importantly less work for them.
I’ve enjoyed my time in SoD but like any seasonal game its gone. Where are the Season of Mastery servers now?. Even with the new proposed dungeons SoD has been given its expiry date and people are understandably disappointed and angry. I’m doing both classic classic and SoD to see where it leads but 4000 raiding Horde on Wild Growth EU may be cut to 2000 this week with many guilds asking “What do we do now?”.
Its understandable as people wanted Classic + but If they had announced classic + would everyone feel the same or jump to the next thing in the usual FOMO manner?.
I enjoyed Level 60 content with undermine coins and Shaman with Shield but everything else wasn’t good enough. I miss Temple as a dungeon, I miss AV and the fact that SoD has content/Rank locks is unacceptable.
However for a classic+ testbed it was an overall great experience, because it improved Maxlevel content and it was very alt friendly. All this helped to test things and understand what I really want.
Ngl, we are getting way too many variations of classic nowadays that makes me wonder how thin they trying to spread the community.
Fresh Classic sounds fun early on cuz everyone is on the same page, leveling and what not, but at 60, well, I’d be surprised if people can maintain running 40 man raids for long.
Sure SoD has its balance issues but kind of all classes/specs are viable to play on a decent level. Can’t imagine going back to the main 3 classes (rogue/warrior/mage and to some extend warlock) on classic fresh.
Having done the grind in original vanilla I deffo don’t look forward to it, but I guess it’s fine for those who want fresh, but is it that many that justifies it “at the current time”?
I fear it will either not live long enough, especially after people had their taste of SoD and how “playable” was in comparison to authentic classic experience, or at the very least spread the community too thin on all classic versions, causing grouping for content issues.
SoD should have been the Classic+ and stay on the vanilla era and then add new quests, items, new raids etc.
What is the purpose of sod? or what is the purpose of replaying an inferior version of vanilla wow cause classic is inferior to sod.
Tell me again how balanced it was in classic vanilla?
Going from bad to worse isnt necessarily a step in the right direction.
In sod basically every specc is viable in pve, thats NOT the case in vanilla (not even remotely close).
In pvp rogues were dominating hard.
If you want to go back to fresh for other reasons, i honestly hope you enjoy the time there. But if you go “back” to fresh, thinking that the balance is gonna be better, you will have a challenging time there.
It’s incredible that people really don’t understand what they’re getting into here. Fresh Classic will die so quickly, it’s only the hardcore players who will stick around, attracting a base of streamers and fanboys. In the meantime, even though we’ve had a lot of problems with SoD, people will still speak well of it once they actually get the chance to experience the two differences. They’ll quickly realize that people aren’t playing it for nostalgia anymore, but because SoD delivers what people truly want deep down, not the slow Classic or the cluttered F Retail has become
