Whoa whoa whoa, hold up, at no point did anyone mention Classic being perfect or imply that you’re worse off for liking retail over Classic.
Classic is far from perfect and has it’s own fair share of problems, i’d even go as far as to say that if BFA is one extreme then Classic is the other.
Neither games are perfect but both do possess qualities that would benefit the other, retail taking a leaf out of Classic’s book is great since it still holds a lot of the qualities that retail has snipped away over the years (that are apparently popular enough for everyone to look past the multitude of flaws for).
Yeah ignore those clowns, they’re a vocal minority and little to no one in the Classic community like them.
Most of them are all ex-freeloaders too so they’re fair game to laugh at.
To be honest, I did ignore them, and just cracked on having a laugh on my Dwarfy, but the Dog-sex guy, Yeah, I reported the heck out of that.
I didn’t use the word spite originally, it was used at me, as I say, I have fun on Gillacomgain, my aggro but kind Dwarf Warrior, just as much as I have on Brigante, my Chivalrous, honourable but at the same time “Are we the baddies?” Blood Elf. YOu can do both. No need for division, really, the games are so different. Khaz Modan felt like an adventure, but then so did Naz’mir on my Tauren today. It is what you get out of it, I guess.
OP made a good point, and donkeys here on the forum makes it a Retail vs Classic discussion.
A couple of examples of how classic influenced Shadowlands.
-No need for eternal AP grind at max level
-Revamped leveling experience, have every level give your character something new.
-More transparent way of getting gear and upgrades.
-You play a CLASS not a specialization. a Destro lock and a demo lock are basically two different classes on BFA, which is dumb. I hope Blizzard delivers on this promise.
All good changes. It’s fine if you don’t care for classic, don’t play it. But so far it seems to be influencing retail in a great way.
As i’ve said in other posts I would wait until the deep dive to find out what these changes really are, because they could very easily turn out terrible/underwhelming.
Let’s not forget how hyped we initially were for BFA…
Prime example of what I mean, Sneakyfists. A civilised conversation was being had, and now one side are donkeys…
Anyway, I think the Deep Dive is going to bring out a lot of information we all want. Personally? I want to see Blood Elf Rangers get the warpaints they had in WC2, the -possibility- of blue eyes (Though given my characters is about as magical as a housebrick and I play on an RP realm so, stuff like that is important, I’ll probably stay with the Fel Green Peepers for a bit) . Customisation is going to be good. That’s the main positive I’m taking from Shadowlands. The idea of exploring different afterlifes is fun…
But then, the Idea of playing Gillacomgain Hammersmite who doesn’t have to worry about such, and only about getting enough coin together to be able to get a blacksmith to train him how to make some really nice armour, and then having to run and mine the ores and such, is equally fun.
I think he’s more referring to people who seek to stir the pot (like ‘Anyone’ for example) rather than either classic or retail players.
Each community has it’s fair share of tribalistic morons who seek to undermine the other as a result of their own insecurities.
OP does have a fair point about Shadowlands seemingly borrowing a lot of systems from Classic, something they likely would have never done that were it not for the massive success of Classic.
All i’m interested in is how they’re going to improve the classes, since boring and basic classes with zero identity was what drove me away from BFA in the first place, if they fix the classes then everything else is just icing on the cake.
To be honest I am one of those weird types who pick a class, pick a spec and stick with it, through thick and thin, this fella here? Always been MM, whether it was sickenly awful, or sickenly OP (and it has been both) I tend to stick with what I know, and make the best of any changes, although weirdly I don’t make use of Lone Wolf, I like having a Tank Pet, to give me options, I can happily play the waiting game when downing hard mobs, and forgo the MM damage bonus in exchange for being able to keep the enemy “Over there” and not “in my face”. I’m hoping classes will be balanced a little better now, but hey ho, we shall see. Anyway, as charming as this conversation has been, bed beckons. I say bed, I’m sleeping in the damned dining room on a futon as I have relatives around. Not the ideal sleeping arrangements, but such is life. Adios!
People have been crying about these things way before classic launched, some even before classic was announced.
People have a tendency to see things that aren’t there, especially attributing cause to unrelated events.
As for your last point, i think spec identity is the best thing that ever happened to this game, i really hope they don’t destroy specs and they don’t deliver on whatever you think they promised. Destro and demo SHOULD feel different.
Yet their are, or at least they want to. More info tomorrow.
And yes, Destro and Demo can feel different - even in classic.
But they are both Warlocks, and share common traits.
For example both shall be able to cast same spells, they both Warlocks but one specialised in Destruction should have more potent Deathball let’s say, meanwhile one specialised in Demonology should be able to summon stronger demons.
Currently, Demo and Destro not only “feel” different - they are different classes altogether with a taint of similar theme. You could very well change name of Destrolock to Necromancer, give him undead theme and we have a new class.
Actually in classic both specs are virtually the same, demo has nothing unique to it, everything is passive, while destro is a fire spec without a filler, meaning it doesn’t work.
But i don’t really care how you call them, specs, classes, subclasses, i like how they are different now. I don’t mind more commonalities as extra but if not handled correctly this approach could be detrimental, see Kill Command for BM vs SV.
In this particular case it would be better if they use 2 different abilities, as they did in legion with Flanking strike.
id like to thank classic indeed, for removing all the rude ignorant and unpleasant players from retail and jailing them in the past. Retail has been very pleasant, since classic came about … I wonder what the link is … nah, its probably nothing
Thank you Classic for taking all the toxic babies and people who aren’t even good enough for LFR because it has too many mechanics for them, you saved retail.
