Hello,
I want to try out a bit of old school WoW as a side activity, which one would you suggest playing?
Original classic / Season of mastery / TBC
Cheers.

Classic Era realms are pretty much dead.
I’m playing TBC, if you’re going to play that you basically have to play on Firemaw or Gehennas server; everything else is medium - low population and will eventually die. Currently we’re playing nerfed zerg content because Blizzard said, and I quote “Hey guys, remember when we promised not to nerf the content until the next phase? Well, screw you guys we got to keep the crybabies happy.”
I can’t comment much on SoM. It looked kind of disappointing to me, could have been a great way to re-do Classic, but instead they make some of the dumbest changes possible. On top of that, you basically get to max level and then farm Rank 14 gear, which will be BiS all through MC, BWL, ZG and half way through AQ40.
Seems dumb that you can already get gear that’s BiS for half of the game’s lifespan.
Overall, I’d suggest TBC.
This, or wait for Wrath. I don’t know what SoM is like, I never tried, and doubt I will. The vanilla game has never been my jam.
thanks for the summary, TBC it is
Any classes to suggest? As far as I know, balance is a bit different, and not all of the specs/classes are desired in pve content.
I will play solo mostly, so I guess hunter/warlock should be a good pick?
Spec balance in TBC is better than some people think, we’re past the melee-unfriendly phase now; though rogues still aren’t exactly desirable.
Hunter / Warlock is a strong pick throughout the entirity of the expansion. Marksman spec is bad and non existant though so you’re pigeon-holed into playing Beast Master (most raids will take a survival hunter, but more than one is pointless)
