This discussion would be better suited to the Classic forum.
Personally I don’t think it would be a popular suggestion. Many just want the original experience. Warts and all.

the old character models are one of the few things I like about classic, I always hated the new ones, they look way too cartoony to me and the undead casting animations make me want to throw up.

The contrast created by old, low resolution gear textures and hi res models doesn’t look that good. I love classic tier sets, but if you show skin or hide your helm, they immediately show how outdated they are.
It would be amazing to see high res “Hots Wrath Sonya” quality Wrath armor.

You’d have up-to-date character models with very outdated armor, gear and world textures…
Your character would look out of place.
