Classic with retail models?

I know some people will get mad for me writing this, but I want to know if there is possibility for getting option to play Classic with retail models and graphics. I play this game with friends for fun and for the lore! So adding option for better graphics would be a nice touch for people like me who also like good graphics. This should only be an option if people want that authentic vanilla experience this would really be just cream added to already good cake :smiley:

I could write out a long reply but i’ll just keep it concise.

Never gonna happen. They wanted Vanilla. They got Classic. With all it’s ugly visuals.

Whenever i see bugfixes, changes, suggestions etc etc in regards of classic i always have to chuckle and think to myself “hur dur #nochanges hur dur”. Server and community turned out precisely as predicted.

I guess you could make it an option under graphics settings. Halo did it rather elegantly for their anniversary games.

I think that its wasted potential for Shadowlands to not have entire classic implemented into retail. Chromie could easily swap between the two.

You miss one important detail and that is how is that gonna work with Allied races?.

The same as Culling of Stratholme dungeon or PvP Mercenary Mode. You could be bacically transformed into other race~

Still any pre-BFA/Legion expansion is strange while playing as AR so dunno what is the problem in the first place :joy:

It was available the other way around (old models in retail) for a short period.
Not anymore though.

As for the OP, I don’t want it and I don’t even play classic much.
I understand why people would ask for it but here’s the thing about classic, by nature it is dated and old fashioned. It would be really weird to have 2020 models running around in that world.

But for a lot of people it’s also a relic / time capsule back to 2004 for people.

Ultimately it just comes down to that saying; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Can I have old models available in retail please with the original animations (not the abominable thing they did in Legion with old skin on new models).

Silly! Of course it can happen. WoW classic is just WoW Legion 7.3.5 with everything disabled and reverted back. The character models are a switch away.

I personally think they should get rid of classic and stop wasting dev time on it, get Zidormi in all the vanilla zones with a dialogue option to see the world as it used to be (pre cata with all the old quests) and an option to set the graphics as either ‘Classic’ or ‘Modern’ WoW.

Classic is about much more than the models.

Whether you like Classic or not, you have to acknowledge that it had a very different social world, very different reward systems, very different gameplay, very different sense of progression.

There is no way to reproduce all that with just Zidormi.

Of course it’s different, there wouldn’t be separate servers for it if it was the same.

As for the social world, it’s not that much different from retail as of now. There’s no way you’re going to reproduce the social aspect from 15 years ago, times have changed and all MMO players have moved on since then.

As for the reward systems and gameplay, each expansion has it’s own reward systems and gameplay and they’re all still in the game pretty much as they where when originally implemented.

So there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t have the old classic zones and associated quests in the current game and using ZIdormi is the ideal tool for the job.

If you want to stay living in the past and pretend that you’re 15 yesrs younger and fake the ‘new, unexplored game’ feeling then I’m sure there are pirate servers somewhere that you could use.

Times change and there are some things that are just not possible now that where here a decade or more ago.

And nonetheless, there are many - very many - who play Classic but not Retail, and many Retailers who also spend time in Classic.

I would not call for “getting rid of Classic and stop wasting dev time on it” any more than I waould call for getting rid of M+ and stop wasting dev time on it just because I’m not interested in it.

If they added Zidormi and the old quests (and removed transmogs) to Retail, I’d be mildly pleased, but I still wouldn’t remove Classic.

As far as Night Elves and humans, I strongly prefer their old models and animations. Especially for Night elves. In my opinion they should never remove the option to play with old models. And also I have no problem if there is option in classic for new models.

I think a lot of people are confusing me for some mind of retail zealot who wants to hold retail close to his chest and yell at forum repliers with “mine… MINE!!”

I’m not the one you have to convince. I couldn’t care less whether classic has updated models or not (even though to be honest it would defeat the purpose…?..) as I played 4 hours of classic, was reminded how mind crushingly boring it was and never touched it again.

You should be trying to convince classic zealots, not me.
